unnecessary tests??

I have been to my Dr several times now, and I keep getting sent for additional testing. I have had a TAH/BSO, a year ago, and now he's starting to freak me out by making me have a PET scan & he also did a CA-125 (which he explained away as "family history necessitated it).
I have been having bladder problems & now pain in the area where the vaginal cuff is. I still haven't even got my year pap out of him!!!
Think I need a second opinion, or am I just being paranoid, or is he being paranoid???
I'm so confused, it's scaring me, I've had cancer to many times to find out that I may have it again (and i may be over reacting too).

Any ideas?

tests

I just finished another 6 mo. check-up yesterday and it''s funny how we "read' into things by what is ordered etc. Mine didn't do a vault smear (thought that was weird) and didn't order any tests. Now, that should be a really good sign. On the other hand, I've never had a PET scan. You sound like you are in very good hands. I've had recent MRI's for different reasons ordered by different docs and maybe my doc figured if something odd showed up someone would let him know..hmm? In todays world of medicine you have to wonder. I would feel reassured that he's being normally cautious and wanting to make sure you have all bases covered. I also know that we don't think that way around check-up time. I'm sitting here wondering whether my cancer isn't floating around somewhere that they arent' looking. Try to relax. Worrying won't make a smidge of difference in any outcome. At least try to relax and know that YOU are empowering yourself to know all that you can and are doing all that you can. Please let us know what the results are..I'm praying you are squeeky clean and shining!

unnecessary tests??

Hi CrickeT!

I would tend to agree with Josie. Sounds like if anything, he's erring on the side of caution, which is a good thing, IMHO. He's really staying on top of things, and there's no way cancer will be able to annonymously creep up on you with his watchful eye!

With your history, I can understand your worry. But if it were me, I think I'd be happy (if anyone can be happy about ANY of this!) to be monitored so closely.

Just my

unnecessary tests??

Hi Cricket,
I'm also thinking you just have a very cautious doctor, covering all bases to ensure everything remains normal and that in my book is a good doctor.
BTW, I get a yearly CAT scan as part of my 5 year check-up plan; is your PET scan in addition to a yearly MRI or CAT scan? I know it always is a quite jittery time for me when check-ups are due and especially prior to the one year visits as that is when my doctors do the "comprehensive/big ", testing like the Cat scan and CBC, etc.
May you soon learn that everything is very boringly normal.

unnecessary tests??

Thanks everybody, I guess I'm just a worrywart!!! Peggiesue, yes, I also had an MRI, and had to be sedated!!! We even have the open MRI, but because he wanted an abdominal done, they said they would rather do it the "old fashioned" way...not a clue why, I'm just glad they have Valium.
Will know my results beginning of next week!!! I can't wait.
