Strange Odour
I had my TAH (one ovary left) on Jan 18.
I noticed yesterday that I have a strange odour. I have very very little discharge but it has an awful odour.
Anyone know what this could be. I am not itchy and I have had yeast infections in the past and are aware what they are. They have never had an odour.
I am concerned, anyone experiencing the same?
Thanks,
Heather

Strange Odour
Hi Heather.
Posts about this odour come up fairly frequently because many sisters have this in the early weeks. I did as well. It is the result of your stitches dissolving, and may linger for awhile...everyone is different in that regard.
I am, of course, assuming as you are that you aren't having an infection. It never hurts to call your Dr. if you're concerned about it, but this is my guess.
My very best to you...
Linda

Strange Odour
Hi Heather,
Music Lady Linda has so many answers that I have gleened off of.. She is so right. I had this odor for about 3 weeks .I asked my DH if I smelled ,he said "no",but I could smell it so strongly.. Just shower every day and know that it does pass. I only get a faint sence of it now at 3 and a half weeks. I got so many answers here that when I did go to the dr. I forgot all my questions. Do check with him if you feel it's really bad. Each day brings something new for me and some pain or discomfort gets easier...but it is a long road and we only have one chance to heal right...so my job now is to rest rest rest it's hard to do when you get a false assurance that you are ok..but resist the urge to clean and other stuff .

Strange Odour
A lot of us have had this bad odor. It really is stinky
isn't it? I had it from about the seven day mark to
about 3 1/2 weeks. I posted about it and you can search
for "odor" or "smell" and see how common it is.
I thought it would never go away. I know one of the sisters had it for about six weeks. Yuch!

To Sniff and worry or not....
Yes, I also notice this and judging by the responses a lot of other women had it too. I had my TAH with BSO Jan. 15th and I noticed it almost straight away. I am now finishing out my 2nd week post-op and have decided I won't worry about it. I feel fine, there's no drainage or discharge and I don't have a temperature. I was given a perineal cleansing bottle while in the hospital as I had trouble for 2 days with urinating on my own and required multiple catherizations (not fun) so I fill that up with warm water and rinse well throughout the day.
I have noticed it isn't as strong as it was. Call your MD if you are really worried about it but otherwise give it some time. Our poor bods have endured a major surgical trauma and need time to heal. Stay clean, use something that smells nice (lotion, perfume etc) and wait it out.
