natural bio-identical hormone replacement therapy

I just finished reading a book by TS Wiley called Sex Lies and Menopause. I am 53, 5 yrs post tolal hysterectomy and have tried every combination of hormones as well as clonidine and effexor. Right now I am on nothing. I can't take hormones because of breast problems. But this book brings up a very definite distinction between synthetic vs natural bio idenical hormones. I am wondering how this would work for someone like me w/ no uterus or ovaries? The theroy behind this program is to try and replicate the natural hormones in your body pre hysterectomy/monopause. The program uses natural estrogen and progesterone creams. This book is pretty radical and basically knocks MD's(especially male md's who don't listen to the women they treat.) and the pharmaceutical industry. Has any one out there read this book and if so....any feedback/ opinions?

I haven't read that book but it sounds like the same case made in Dr. Lee's "What your doctor may not tell you about menopause" and Suzanne Somers "The Sexy Years". I just read both of them over the last few months and have now began the task of changing from synthetic to natural bio-identical hormones. I feel like 110% better. The bio-identical hormones mimic the hormones your body made before surgical menopause. I am 35 and have felt like I was 80 the past few months, now I feel my age again and sometimes younger. lucy darlene

By the way the two books I mentioned are written for women who have had natural menopause but both authors suggest that women who are going through surgical menopause can use the plan too. So I would find a doctor who believes in bio- identicals and ask him what he thinks about your particular situation. Good luck!

Read Suzanne Somers latest book. It's all about BHRT. The interviews with Dr.'s and her own personal experience are informative.

I can't say enough about Suzanne Somers newest book, "The Sexy Years." It is very informative! Although my doctor does the saliva testing (which Dr. Lee's book recommends) and also likes the creams, pellets, or patches (Suzanne takes pill form of bio-identical HRT) she really explains everything a woman goes through from a woman's perspective when you are faced with menopause. I loved it and refer to it often.
For anyone who hasn't read it and is having trouble finding balance on synthetic hormones, bio-identical may be the way to go. I can't begin to tell you how much better I am feeling. And with all the saliva testing I am doing, I feel confident that my doctor is prescribing exactly what I need for my body to function the way it did before. KUDOS to Dr. Lee and Suzanne Somers for breaking out of the box!

HI marmccor

I have not read the book you are referring to, but have read several other books on bio-identical hormones. One I particuarly like is Natural hormone balance by Uzzi Reiss.

I was having a very hard time finding an estrogen therapy that worked well for me. I seemed to have unpleasant side effects with a few that I tried . When I started using estrace (which is bio-identical) I felt so much better. I have since then switched to all compounded bio-identical creames which I love.

You will find that many women with no uterus or ovaries use the bio-identical estrogen and progesterone. If you are interested in finding a doctor that is knowledgeable in prescribing hormones then perhaps the best route would be to find a compounding pharmacy in your area by going here www.iacprx.org and then ask the pharmacist which doctors he uses that prescibes women hormones. That is how I found my current doctor.

You do not neccessarily have to use the compounded cremes to get bio-identical hormone therapy. Many of the estrogen patches are bio-identical and there is also a bio-identical progesterone in a pill called prometrium.

I hope you are able to find something that works well for you. I'm sure it must be alittle uncomfortable not using any HRT
