Radiation Treatments Finished.

It feels like when school is out for summer, only I don't have to go back. Of course, when I got there for my final treatment (of 25, all external only) all five of the machines were down! So, instead of waiting maybe 10 minutes to get the tmt., we all had to wait about an hour.

That turned out not to be so bad, because I got to be with all the nice people I'd met over the weeks, while waiting for our tmts. And, better than that, the Cancer Society people were having a bake sale, and rolled into the waiting rooms with a cartload of home made treats for really cheap. I'm talking home made fudge! And all kinds of other things. I had three pieces. It was worth it.

I will miss all those people I met who were having treatments. I had a good experience, but yes, my belly is burning this one last time, and I finally get to scrub off my x's and other marks they made on me. I didn't have chemo, so I suppose I had an easier time of it?

Radiation Treatments Finished.

Thanks, Jane. My husband is out of town all week, but he calls. No one here but me and the cat! I think I'll go out and have lunch with myself tomorrow, then a little retail therapy.

I have not been sick with anything for maybe three years. Wouldn't you know, the last day of radiation, today, I came down with a sore throat/respiratory kind of thing. Our painter has been sick all week, and I mean really nasty coughing, hacking, touching all our doorknobs and such. I stayed back from him, and used Purell, washed hands, but you can't win em all, I guess. He was blowing his nose so much, I gave him a trash bag and a box of Kleenex Anti-Viral tissues. I'm not as sick as he was. Just enough to be annoying.

I got celebratory emails and phone calls from the two adult children too. All alone and no one to party with. That won't keep me away from the ice cream store, though.

Congratulations and by all means you have to celebrate and why not now and then later too when DH returns - you deserve it! Sorry you picked up a bug from the workman; I still don't understand why folks who are ill don't stay home at least while they may still be contageous. Enjoy the retail therapy; IMHO it's one of the best kinds of therapy available.

Dear LA41950,

"SCHOOL's out for summer!" I so hope School's out forever for you!
Congrats on finishing your radiation treatments!
:

As far as missing the folks at treatment, I've been finished chemo since October and still occasionally stop by the chemo suite just to say hi to the ladies. I think they enjoy the company and enjoy seeing someone who's "been there, done that" and doing so well.

Celebrate your good news in any small way....but DO celebrate!
What's next for you as far as follow ups and stuff?
XOXOXO

Hi LA41950,

Congratulations on finishing your treatment. I think I can remember you posting a few weeks ago saying you felt you couldn't continue with the treatment (hope i've got the right person), and here you are today - FINISHED Well done.

What a great way to finish, with all those nice treats and having extra time to talk with those lovely people you've met over the weeks.

You can now start to enjoy a healthy life again, and put this all behind you.

Best wishes,

Geraldine

I know what you mean about going back to visit in the chemo room. I didn't have chemo, but I really miss those folks I met in the rad. waiting room. We all shared stories and tips and laughs.

I always celebrate with food , so I'm going to a place that has a cafe with coffee, and they make beautiful wedding cakes. I'm going to have coffee and a huge piece of my favorite vanilla buttercream pound cake "wedding cake". OOoooh boy. I haven't been there in over 6 months. Maybe get take out from Golden Corral (ours is very nice and clean, as I've seen some that weren't). I am dying for lots of veggies, and they have lots.

The doc's office I'm going to today is just a GP, and my nurse practitioner is the one who did the pap and referred me to the gyn/onc when she suspected endometrial cancer. It was her last day on the job, and she was going to have her baby the next week. Now she's back, and I'm going to show her my healed scar!

Yes, I wanted to quit the radiation after the first week, because (looking back) I was scared. I made it through and it wasn't even bad at all. Diarrhea, burning feeling, but nothing really bad, you know?
