rollercoaster ride: second opinion tomorrow

Hi folks,
What a frustrating day with doc#1. I canceled my surgery. Tomorrow I'll see my old doc and ask about getting a LAVH rather than TAH with BSO. All I've read about minimally invasive surgeries is so positive. I'm not sure that in my area there are many doctors with this expertise.
The websites on LAH and LAVH say that a c-section woman (me)can have the LAVH I'm not getting a green light in this neck of the woods. However, I've only talked to one doctor so far about it . I think I may have to get myself down to Boston. I like the term "Patient as Partner" so I'll keep looking until I find that other doctor partner.
Anyone else gone down this route? I do have a buddy in San Diego that I met on this site that has helped with her story of a similiar situation. And humor is going to save the day I think.
Thanks for your support everyone out there in cyberland.

I'm sorry you aren't happy with your doctor and hope your new doctor lets you have what you want.
I thought if you had c-sections you had to have a TAH?

rollercoaster ride: second opinion tomorrow

Hi Homerjones,

In pre-op, I got two opinions and I would have got a third. My 1st Dr. wanted to do a TAH due to the size of my fibroids. She said I was ~not~ a candidate for a laparoscopic hyst. I got a 2nd opinion and he suggested (3) months of lupron shots to shrink my fibroids enough for a LSH. I am 11 months post-op now and very pleased with my LSH surgery results.

I think a 2nd and even a 3rd opinion is a good idea. In my case, I wanted to find out all my possibilties and then make a decision. Sounds like what you are doing.

Do not give up hope. We Hyster Sisters are here to help you if we can. I live in a more rural area. It took some searching and I was able to find a very qualified laparoscopic surgeon one hour's drive from my house.

Best wishes,

Mary

Hi Homer,
I'm having surgery the same day as you. As of right now, I'm scheduled to have a LAVH keeping both ovaries. I had 4 c-sections and never delivered vaginally. I totally trust my doc. The only thing I was going to talk to him about was keeping my cervix. My pre-op appt is on 3-29-05. I'll let you know what he says. Good luck to you, I'll be thinking of you
