5% testosterone cream anyone?

My GYN prescribed the compounded testosterone cream, which I was excited to finally get...but after picking it up at the pharmacy, I noticed that it is 5% which seems high compared to other ladies here. Just curious, does anyone else have the 5%, and if so, how much do you use daily?

Oh, thanks Troubled Tabby for the help on my private message concerning this!

Jackie,
5% sounds high to me. I usually see 1% or 2% being prescribed. Perhaps you should give your doctor a call on Monday and ask about the doseage. You could also give your pharmacist a call and ask for his/her opinion on the doseage.

5% refers to the concentration. Your final dose could be the same or less than than someone with a 1% or 2% formula. What is the volume or ml you are taking. From that you calculate how many milligrams you are getting each day.

Well... the problem with 5% cream is that to get an average woman's dose, the amount you need to dispense is very small. The smaller the amount, the less accurately it's possible to measure it out.

I use a 1% cream (that's 10mg testosterone per gram of cream). I use only 1/4 to 1/2 of a gram of cream at a time (which is, in the case of my particular base, close to 1/4 to 1/2 of a ml or cc (they are both the same)). I cannot imagine trying to dispense only 1/5 of that amount with any sort of reproducibility.

-Linda
