What gives with the research??

I would love to hear your opinions on this one.

After reading paper upon paper about how all this research has been done to tell us that hysterectomy doesn't affect out sex lives or quality of sex, how has this been done.

I find it extremely frustrating that this is allowed to be published in the first place. First of all there has not been an scientific research to back this, and second of all what they are relying on is women answering a few questions at 6, 12 and sometimes 18 months later.

As we know from other posts on Hystersisters it has come to light that some women do feel embarrassed to admit they are having sexual dysfunction after a hyst so don't mention it and sort of 'talk it up'.

This really bugs me to no end because it gives women and the medical community false information. I remember I went to a female gyn and told her that I missed my cervix and wished I had of kept it, she said to me that all the studies have shown this plays no part in sex. Hmmm, I am sitting there saying this to her and she is dismissing me.

Also from other posts on Hystersisters this is really, really common for doctors to do both before hyst and after hyst. We have all heard about the doctor who says 'I have never had this complaint before'.

I just want to know why this is allowed to continue to mislead women.

You may be able to tell I am feeling really angry about this, I am 3 years post op and had no idea of any of this before hand because all that I read didn't seem to happen to me. This in turn made me feel like there was something wrong with me. It was only until reading posts on this site from women who were speaking up about it that I felt the problem was much larger.

Any input or views would be great.

((((Auschick))))
I can tell you are very frustrated and you feel that you weren't informed, you have every right to feel let down.
I just had to reply to your post as I can only speak for myself and I will freely admit to anyone that I was suffering from terrible sexual dysfunction "before" my surgery actually non-existant because of all my problems, perhaps I've been lucky that so far things have improved 100% since my surgery, bearing in mind I'm only 6 months. I would hope that there aren't that many women out there who are "talking it up" or embarassed about discussing problems, the only way to get help and be heard is to speak up for ones self , IMHO pretending there isn't a problem only leads to "bigger" problems. I do hope you get some answers, Goodluck and sending you s

Sex after hyst, will it change, I have an idea!

I have been thinking about this for a while now and thought I would post about it.

We have so many posts about sex before and after, we also have so many studies done on this which are just basically asking questions to women afterwards.

Wouldn't it be great instead of asking questions about sex life before and sex after if some women (and of course the medical community) would agree to have some sort of recording object inserted before hyst to see what exactly happens during orgasm to the women and then do the same recording at 6, 12 and 18 months post op.

We would definitely see the difference then.
