TAH - for cervical cancer
I was late going in for my yearly check and when I did my family dr told me that he found some strange cells on my cervix. After some more tests, he confirmed what he first thought. I then found out that I had cervical cancer. That was two days after christmas.
I was in total shock. Nobody in either side of my family has any type of cancer. I told my hubby and we cried for about ten minutes. Then I got mad and wanted revenge on this strange thing that had come into my body. I was scheduled for a specialist the next month. I got so sick and worried about the cancer spreading and who would raise my two girls who were only 3 and about 18 months I had them move it up. So about a week after I found out I had my hyster. When I moved up my hyster I had to change dr's due to a scheduling conflict. No biggie, I thought.
I was scheduled for about 8 am. I know that they were going in vag, and I was told that I would be home that night to eat supper with my kids. My parents had driven about two hours to stay with my hubby and girls. My dad stayed at our house with my oldest daughter. The little one and mom came with hubby and I to the hospital.
I remember going back to get prepped. I remember starting the IV's. After that I loose about 6 hours. What was supposed to be a 45 minute surgery took about 5 hours! They went in vag and ended up in my abdoman.
After I had my youngest daughter c section, I had a mild infection that glued my uterus to my bladder. They didn't do any type of ultrasound before and didn't know this. So when they tried to remove my uterus my bladder came too. My arrogant dr came out and told my hubby and my mom that had happened and he politely added "But it won't kill her, just take longer to fix!" After I woke up in recovery I realized that I had a piece of equipment sitting on my abdomen! No wonder it hurt like %*$! I spent two days in the hospital, and was discharged with a foley. Told to make a appointment with a uroligist in about a week. That was a friday. On tuesday I was admitted to the hsopital close to home. Had surgery in a university hospital about an hour away from home.
I had been having severe hot flashes and had gone to the bathroom thinking that would help Foley wasn't working right. Almost passed out on the toilet. Scared my poor mom out of her mind. Just as she was gong to drive me to the hsopital hubby to the rescue. He walked in the kitchen door and we left.
At the er I found out that my cath tubing had a clot in it that was causing fluid to build up in my bladder and kind of poisoning me. Two days in there with IV's and lots of morphene I came home to my mom and girls .
When I got out of the car I was met by my little daughter in her snowsuit throwing a snowball at me! My mom had been playing with them and couldn't get her to go in the house. Three days after that my mom went home to my dad who had been all by himself for about two weeks. He even had all the house work done he missed her so much!
I don't know what I would have done without my girls, my mom, or most of all my hubby for being my rock of strength! I love him so much that I hurt when he isn't around. I have been cancer free for two years and counting. The one thing that my bumbeling dr did right was get all of the cancer. I lost my uterus and my cervix, but I kept the ability to see my little girls grow up. I know that I am a strong person. My stubborn streak is the biggest thing about me. I don't want to scare any of you. Deep down I know that I had to do this. I don't want to think what could or would have happened if I didn't.
