Can't stop crying

I feel terrible, can't seem to stop crying. I am 5 weeks post TAHBSO. I work in home health care. I started back to work one week ago because I was out of sick time and vacation time. The original agreement with my boss was that I would work in the office at a desk job until I was released to full duty. The doctor reluctantly released me to work four hours a day. Today, I was "talked to" by my boss who told me that because the doctor did not say I had to work in the office, I would have to resume seeing clients four hours a day. I will have to drive all over town, get in an out of my car several times and perform nursing care to these patients. When I told my boss that I didn't think I was up to that yet, she told me that I was milking my surgery for all that it was worth and that I should be much stronger now. She told me that she and my fellow employees think I am "whining" and not being a team player. She then told me that I needed to change my attitude.

I can't seem to stop crying. I feel so alone. It doesn't seem like anybody understands. I am a single mother. My parents have been great through all of this, but they are elderly and I can't keep leaning on them.

Just needed to vent.

Tell your doctor what you told us... Since he "reluctantly" released you for work, let your doctor know what kind of work you are being expected to do. I am shocked that a nursing business can be so callous as to accuse you of "milking" this surgery... Has nobody else in that company ever had major abdominal surgery? I didn't have enough leave time for a full 6-8 week off work, but my doctor told me that she wasn't going to release me until my 6 week check up. I am taking unpaid leave for 3 weeks. Fortunately, my DH told me that we can handle it, and wants me to get as much recovery under my belt as possible, and I don't have anywhere near as demanding a job as you do... You went back too early to a job with no heart... If I were you, I would go right back to my doc and get an amended release. (or, if possible, maybe even an extension of your leave...) Good luck, and DON'T let ignorant people make you overdo... It's your body - and you still need to heal... Good Luck and s to you...

This is excellent advice! Please "get a doctor's note" if that's what it takes to prevent you from being required to perform nursing care. That is way, way too physically demanding and dangerous at this point in your recovery.

We all care about you and want you to have the best recovery possible! Try to stop crying so that you can pick up the phone, call your doctor's office, and make arrangements to get that note to present to your employer. Let us know what happens.

WOW! This is unreal. I feel for you and I don't even work. Wel I shouldn't say that I'm a housewife and it does require work. My husband is also finding this out too.

Go back to your Doctor, and tell him what has been said to you. I think he would even call them and tell them you have had Major surgery.

I sure do wish you the best. My prayers are with you.
