Update on me

Hi....

I've survived the first Gemzar/Hycamptin chemo. It was much quicker. I was only there for about 2 hours. My dad offered to take me...but I think that was hard for him. I think he was looking around for my onc, who was my mom's onc. Overall, we enjoyed the time together.

I had some nausea when I got home, so I took a Compazine and slept on my foof chair (big 7 ft. puffy bean bag type chair) for most of the rest of the day.

Tuesday and Wednesday I felt good, just a little more tired than usual.

Thursday I felt like I was coming down with a cold, and also realized that the constipation was happening even though I took many measures to prevent it.

Today, I am on full breathing treatments for my cold/upper respiratory infection and am waiting for a call from the oncologist. With having asthma, I don't want to let this get to pneumonia.

Overall, it wasn't bad. Minus the cold, I think I will be able to do this for at least six months....that's what they've ordered!

S

PS..I highly recommend "animal therapy." Our new little guinea pig Molly is very comforting to me. Do I refer to her as DP (dear pet) or DGP (dear guinea pig)?

Update on me

Linda

Good to hear from you and glad you got through treatment #1
I hope the upper respiratory thing clears quickly. I,m doing okay with my treatments also. Also tired with some back and abdominal pain. I am trying to keep up with my CBC as they do them. I guess it makes me feel like I am more involved in my care. I will have my first repeat Ca-125 next Thursday so I am very anxious about it.

Best wishes

Enjoy your new guinea pig! Pets are a wonderful comfort.

Update on me

Hi Linda,

I am glad to hear that your treatment went well but sorry to hear that you have a nasty cold. I too have asthma and know how rotten you can feel. That is why I also go on an antibiodic right away to ward offf anything.
Hope you will be feeling better soon.

I am glad your chemo is going smoothly. I hope that nasty cold goes away. You don't need that too.

I am a big believer in animal therapy. My cat & dogs have always been a comfort especially during bad times.

Hang in there.

Treatment and Respiratory

I'm glad the first chemo went well. Hoping that they can get the respiratory cleared up with breathing treatments and other meds.
Keep us updated--that cancer is just cringing away; I can feel it.

Update on me

I hope the Gemzar/Hy stays as good as people say it is, for you. I don't think it makes your hair fall out, either, if I'm not mistaken. I could be wrong.

I know how you feel with the cold. As SOON as I walked out of my LAST radiation treatment, I knew I was getting a sore throat/cold. I went to the doc, and she said no strep and blah blah. Then it got much worse, so I went back a week later with the worst cold and slight fever and terrible cough. It wasn't in my lungs, just the bronchial areas and sinus. Well, she finally gave me antibiotics, but it still took another week and a half for me to get over. All this because the house painters were sick, coughing in my kitchen and touching everything. Have yourself a face mask in case you go somewhere and someone is hacking all over the place, or spitting when they talk! Get the flat ear-loop kind so you can keep it in your purse.

I swear, I think a cold and cough and sorethroat is worse than the cancer, sometimes! At least it makes you feel like it.

Hope you have plenty of help with your family and family duties. Can the boys get Boy Scout badges for helping out with meals, laundry and other things? Might be a good incentive for them.

Ah, but what do I know about scouts? I was one back in the 1950s and 60s!

Hey Linda, good to hear from you. Glad your treatment well!

Hope you feel better soon, and that you nip that cold in the bud before it turns into a bigger problem.

s Linda

I'm glad to read you are tolerating the combo pretty well.
Lets hope these are the drugs that bring NED back.
Hopefully that cold will disappear without any pneumonia.
Thinking of you.
