Please read sisters!

I am 9 days post op after yet anothe abdominal surgery to get rid of adhesions. Can anyone tell me how long it will take to feel good and not be in so much pain anymore? Also, what are the odds of having the adhesions come back? The docotr said my adhesions were severe. She also put in a barrier.
Anyone else who has had adhesions and had them removed abdominaly please share your story with me.
God bless you all!

Adhesion surgery

I had adhesions removed in 1999. I had a good 3 years without pain. Then they started to grow back, but they are not as severe. That is what my body did, and there is no way to tell how and if they will grow back for you. It seemed to take a while for me to feel better, I didn't go back to work for 4 weeks, and then it was light duty for another 2 weeks.
I hope and pray you feel better soon!

Adhesion surgery

Chrissy,
As you can see from my sig line, I have had my fair share of adhesion surgeries. With relief lasting 3 weeks once, 6 months once and then last time 4 weeks and that was with a barrier. You have to recover just like if you had an abominal hyst. Follow all the princess rules all over again. 9 days is still pretty early. I would say that if you are not feeling better pain wise by next week, then you need to call the doc and get in to see him/her. The barrier does not guarantee they will not come back, I pray for you that they will stay away, cause it is a vicious cycle. I am in pain management at this point unless I develop a bowel obstruction, surgery is out of the question.
If you did not have an abdominal hyst, then go read the link on the top of this page called "checkpoints" and follow those guidelines. Basically for the first 2 weeks, you shouldn't be doing anything at all except short walks around the house, drinking lots of water and resting a lot. Recovery for both of my adhesion surgeries after hyst, was exactly like recovery from hyst...you have to take the same precautions. Please keep us updated on how you are doing and if you have any questions on adhesions or anything about recovery, please feel free to PM or email me at anytime.

Adhesion surgery

Chrissy,

I'm sorry you've had to have another surgery. I hope you are feeling better soon! I've always been lucky enough to not have to have an open abdominal incision, so I can't answer your questions about that. I have been battling adhesions since my first surgery back in 2001, though. Like Marian said - sometimes the pain stays away for a few weeks, sometimes a few months. But for me I can always count on it coming back. But it's not the same for everybody. So you may get lucky! I am also in Pain Management to help control the pain associated with my adhesions and CPP. Surgery is no longer an option for me...I've had 7 in the last 4 years. So unless I have something wrong with my bladder/colon my doc says we are leaving the adhesions where they are.

Please take it easy. Don't overdue it! Your body needs to take time and heal. If you need to chat....we're always here!

Adhesion surgery

Chrissy
I'm sorry you've had to endure more surgery. For me, I have found that with each additional surgery after the hyst it has taken me longer to recover. I have learned the hard way not to rush my recovery. I now take the extra time to give my body time to heal. Don't rush things, give yourself all the time you feel you need.

Adhesion surgery

I agree with (((Kim))) about this - each time I have had surgery it seems to take my body longer to recover. I had my LAVH 3 years ago. I had my right ovary and adhesions removed 10 months ago. I had yet another surgery 7 weeks ago to remove a right pelvic tumor and more adhesions. At 7 weeks post-op I am still really tired.

Get as much rest and pampering as you can.

Me too!

Hi, Chrissy.

I had a TAH/BSO in January '03 and I also had adhesion surgery in July '03 - - right about 6 months after my hyst. My doctor told me that my adhesions were severe as well. Sounds like your history is very similar to mine, though, all of us adhesion sufferers can identify with the pain. Everyone feels perceives pain differently, too. For me, the adhesions have returned and I knew it within a month. They don't feel like they're in the same places as they were the first time around, but my aim is not to go through more surgery to find out for sure. If I know anything now, it is to stay out of surgery until more can be done about adhesions returning. As Marian states, barriers aren't a for sure thing. My doctor placed Seprafilm as well. I try to stay as active as I can. Sometimes I feel like if I stop, I'll wind up like the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz and just get stuck in one position. Anyway, feel free to e-mail me or private message me anytime and I'll share more with you. It wasn't clear to me from your post whether your adhesion surgery was open or laparoscopic. Incidentally, mine was open again. Not fun. But, Kim is right - - give your body time to heal. Be kind to yourself and try not to rush things too much. Surgery itself takes a nasty toll on the body and you've been through two fairly close together. Hugs . . .

Adhesion surgery

I am so sorry you are having a hard time and I hope you feel better soon ,just make sure to listen and take care of YOU! I am going in tomorrow and just posted a message of my own before I found this post. I am curious, were you told you would be cut or was there a chance it could be done with laser. My Dr suspects adhesions but isnt sure which way he will have to approach it until he is in there.
Again, I sure hope you are feeling better VERY soon
