not losing weight

Hi Debbie!
I have been in your shoes! Congrats on quitting smoking! That was the best thing you could have done for yourself.

Now, to get the darn wt off!

I gained about 25lbs when I quit. I got all but 5lbs off- the last couple of lbs are stubborn, and this hysterectomy biz doesn't help matters.

My best advice to you is quit the diet sodas! I read so much bad about them. I even heard on news just about a wk ago that there could be as much as 10 tsp of sugar in diet sodas.( thought they were sugar free!) At weight watchers they recommend not wasting any calories on drinks. Drink water, flavor it with lemon- best thing for you. They said people get significant results by not drinking diet type drinks. The last thing I will tell you is all soda is considered slow death. It robs bones of calcium, offers no nutrition, dehydrates you, and I am sure there is more I forgot. Can you tell I am anti soda?

Keep in mind too, you have a choice in everything you put in your body. I'm by no means perfect. I was suffering with constipation from some dumb choices I made this past w/e but- I am back on track and pooping like a parakete! (lol)

I hope it is of some help to you!

News, I just read your post-reply and would like to know if you are on any HRT and gained weight with using it? I also stopped smoking day of surgery about 4 1/2 months ago and was put on Estratest HS I have gained about 20 pounds is it the stop smoking or the HRT use? Its very frustrating, I'm going to Drs. April 18 to ask alot of weight questions.. Would like to have Hyster-sisters advice because you have been there.. greatly appreciated..

Thank You

not losing weight

(((Bonnie))),
Congrats on quitting!!!
I am not on any HRT. I had two sisters with breast cancer, so I don't consider that an option for me , but I do not have any menopausal issues at all anyway.(At this time!) I believe hrts can cause wt issues but not speaking from any experience. I know how I gained my wt when I quit. I rewarded myself with whatever I wanted. I never had wt issues- so I figured I could fix that easier.( Huh, not impossible, but not quite easy ) Smoking is not an option.
Wt issues are frustrating in and of themselves, add to that menopausal symptoms and HRTs and it's not hard to see there could be some problems. The chemistry in your body has been through, and is adjusting to, a lot. When you communicate your concerns to your DR they can address the issues with regards to what your taking. I'm glad you have the appointment.
I think you will need to be very flexable for a while.
Don't expect everything at once. It's not an exact science, so you will need to tweek things a bit. Try to make what you eat count nutritionally. At least you won't be compounding a tempory problem.
I wish I could be of more help- I wish all the best to you.

P.S. It always amazes me how little food we actually need- watch serving sizes for a bit to get an idea.
