Lupron for fibroids-2 shots prescribed
I am 44. No children. Very active and fit. 3 years of heavy bleeding. Bad. Bled 25 out of 30 days.... Failed ablation. Uterus very large. GYN mis-diagnosed my fibroids. (Or did'nt diagnose anything, only prescribed stronger BC pills, which I refused to take.Never did an ultrasound.) After 3 years of misery, and HIM telling me "it was hormones, I fired him! Finally found a referral for another Dr. After ultra sound, laparascopy, I am full of fibroids. Many and huge. I have one that has fallen from my cervcix into my vagina. Unable to do D&C at the time of laparascopy, too many fibroids!! RN in recovery told me "she has never seen anything like it before" (thanks alot,) Have had my 2cd Lupron shot 16 days ago, now. First month was pretty rough. Have to understand it's all part of it... Had the 2cd shot 16 days ago. Have not had the predicted hot flashes and nite sweats yet. Still spotting. Dr. is predicting TAH after 2cd shot (?). wonder why, after all I read on this website, and others, about hys. after the third shot? Bought the "HYSTER SISTERS" guide. Read it all today. Would recommend it to any one going through this hell. Funny and very informative. I'm scared. Have never had major surgery before. Not accepting the fact(very well) that I'm going to be laid up for about 6 weeks. I have a 2 yr old HORSE that I have been riding lightly since last fall that I am totally in love with. He is in my back yard. My DH can clean his stall and care for him, but, but, but, we have a training schedule that now has a (at least) 8 week big BLANK in it!!! Are there any horse women out there that can help me cope, and tell me how long it was for them before they could ride again?

equine nut - (((((Forget about the horse!)))))) Please take care of yourself! (said with hyster-sisterly caring and concern)
I have no idea why they are keeping you waiting this long, or even giving you Lupron in the first place. If you are having a TAH anyway, I see no rationale for more Lupron and extending your misery. And your experience with the BCP's sounds like many of the sisters here (and mine, too). Fibroids are estrogen-fed, and BCP's cause them to grow - ALOT!
You will be able to ride for the entire rest of your life, as long as you allow yourself the time that YOU need (nobody can predict, we are all different) for a restful, careful, uncomplicated recovery.
 S & best wishes

The horse will be fine - you may have to take a 'step back' with him once you heal (and don't ride until you do!). Both DH and I (and all the kids) ride - my SIL has a horse farm and boarding business.
She had a TAH about ten years ago - she has staff to clean, feed, and exercise the horses - and didn't even try to ride for 2 months and even then it was up, around once, and off. I called and asked - she says you will have to cut back the time you spend at one time once you can resume his training... if you train for an hour plan on 10 minutes to start. Don't push it - the horse will know that you are tenative (and if he's llike mine, take advantage of it). They have an unbelievable sense about them. Commader (my horse) dislikes men - any man can feed or brush him, but he won't let a man ride him. He threw my DH twice. - DH gave up on trying to ride him (his horse is old and grumpy so he wanted a different experience - - he got it !)
SLOW is the word - just like you started his training (with patience) is how you will have to ease back into his schedule.

One of my two (very minor) dissapointments about the surgery is being unable to ride. My dr. told me 8 weeks, my neighbor had more extensive bladder and bowel repair and was told 3 -4 months. I'm just focusing on the fact that I will be able to ride uninterrupted for the rest of my life and a couple months compared to the next 40-60 years is not a big deal. Just focus on getting well and how much better you will feel.
