uterine prolapse

Hi Ladies. I would like to know if I can put off hysterectomy for uterine prolapse. I am assuming I cannot and should not since from what I have read in your posts, the pain gets worse and it will cause problems with bladder and bowel. Also, do most of you have pain with intercourse? That is how I knew something was wrong-plus it is uncomfortable to use tampons lately.

uterine prolapse

Hello,

I am 2 weeks post-op. I had a LAVH with A & P repair work and a bladder tack. All of this was due to prolapse of the uterus, bladder and rectum.

I think you can put this surgery off as long as you're comfortable with that decision. This is not life threatning or anything. BUT My dr. told me it is easier to make the repairs before things got any worse. My bladder was almost bulging out of me.

What degree is your prolapses? Some are mild, and don't need surgery. Sometimes Kegel exercises can help the mild cases.

I had some discomfort with intercourse. It depended on the time of the month. If it was the week before my period, it was somewhat painful. And I always had to go potty before sex. My bladder was the worst of the prolapses. I had symptoms like a bladder infection in Oct. '04 and that is how I found out about the prolapses. I had a lot of pressure, but I had twins 2 years ago and thought it was just from that.

If you have any questions, just ask.

uterine prolapse

Hi Donna. I don't know the stage of prolapse. My Doc only said it has dropped 2 inches from my last internal and it had to come out. I have a consultation with him on 4/15. I am not in horrible pain. I still do normal activities and work. However, I have ovarian pain, stabbing crotch pains, cramping, back aches, irregular bleeding, bloating, and feel all swollen inside. Sometimes a "heavy" feeling like I am carrying around a bowling ball. It almost always hurts during sex-like I am bruised inside. Different positions seem to help, but like you said, depends on the time of the month. Generally, most of the time I am having stomach discomfort of one kind of another and don't feel like having sex. I definitely do not feel sexy and would rather put it off for . I really don't want to put this off. I would rather get it done next month and have 6 weeks off for the nice summer weather so my family can take care of me.

uterine prolapse

Hi softskin,
I just had a TVH for the exact reason you are describing. I was getting terrible bladder infections that would come out of no where. Sex was almost impossible because it felt like someone was driving a mack truck into a brick wall. I felt the heavy, pulling feeling like everything was going to fall out. I did my surgery and recovery is slow, but I can't wait to have sex and not have the pain. I too pretty much gave up on it and didn't want to try anymore. Good luck with your decisions.

Softskin

I have had a uterine prolapse for years since I had a 9 lb son. My prolapse is so bad now that I can bear down and literally push my prolapse out of my vagina about 1/4-1/2 inch. Also, if I have a BM and have to push hard, my uterus literally prolapses down into the folds and I feel a lump on the side of my vagina. I know this sounds weird, but it's true. I feel sometimes like I'm sitting on my insides when I sit down because if the uterus is prolapsing real bad and it pinches it and in my opinion, only will pull it down further by pinching and pulling it when sitting. This fortunately does not happen all the time. I have constant vaginal irritation and am constantly getting yeast infections, in part due to being diabetic. My doctor doesn't think I have a bladder prolapse or a bowel prolapse really, but I'm sure if I do, he will take things back up. I don't want the surgery and am scared have to death. I am going through preop testing right now. Have had a CT scan of the uterus and ovaries and surrounding area and am scheduled the 27th to have an endometrial biopsy. I'm sure that will feel wonderful. I hope it doesn't start my period sooner. I definitely understand what you're going through. I'm going to try and get my surgery done Lord-willing by around June after my son finishes school. Take care.

uterine prolapse

Hi Gbonnough! Why are you putting this operation off? It sounds like you have been suffering for years. The longer you put it off, the more damage you have and the tougher recovery will be. (Not to mention a bigger hospital bill and stay!) You also might be out of work longer now than if you had done it years ago. I think you have to just accept that it is something you MUST do and accept that it will make you feel better. AND, it will! I am sorry to hear you are not feeling well and I thank you for your reply. My TVH is scheduled for 5/17-just 3 weeks from now. I am getting my affairs in order and getting everything on the pre op shopping list. I know the recovery will be painful, but I need to get my sex life back again! Take care, Cindi

Believe me, I am getting ready for the surgery. I am tired of suffering too. I go Wednesday as I said for my endometrial biopsy and then whatever else he needs me to do, then as soon as my son is done with school, it's off to the Castle. You take care and good luck on the 17th.

uterine prolapse

Hi Ladies
I lived with my prolapse for over seven years until I could take the time to have it fixed. My hospital stay was only 2 1/2 days and my recovery was very smooth.

While prolapse isn't life threatening like other reasons for hysterectomy are, quality of life was something I was interested in getting back. It's definitely a personal decision that each of us has to make on her own. When I found HysterSisters, I read all I could to make sure I was doing the right thing. It was a huge decision but for me it was the right one.

Take all the time you need to decide because once it's out,it's out and you can't put it back. While we can't predict how anyone's outcome will be, I pray you all have successful surgeries.

Btw....if you know your surgery date, please update your profile so we can send you "checkpoints" and "Best Wishes" as your date approaches.

Blessings...

uterine prolapse

Sparklies -

How long what your recovery? I am having a TVH with the bladder sling, and am a little concerned about the recovery from the bladder repair taking longer than the recovery from the TVH.

THANKS!

uterine prolapse

Hi LIW.I am almost 4 weeks post-op from my TVH.I had Stage 2 Uterine Prolapse. When my DH and I had sex, he would hit my Uterus and litterally make me come up off the bed in severe pain.It got to where I didn't want to have sex because of all the pain and then add to that 2-3 periods a months with severe clotting and you can pretty well much guess how sex was for me.

GBonnough, I had the Biopsy done.It doesn't hurt to bad, sort of like a little pinch and then some cramping.I took Motrin for the discomfort, but that only lasted a day. You'll have some slight spotting from it also, but I only had to wear a pantiliner for that.

We have to remember that we need to take care of ourselves for our families as well as for ourselves. If you need the surgury, then get it done and then after you recover...go on with life.....only this time, it will be better.I feel WONDERFUL and I thank God every day that I had this surgury done.I've been able to leave the house without a change of clothes and a TON of pads.My family and I have went on several picnics already since my TVH.Remember to rest often and drink LOTS of water to keep bowels and such working good.
Good luck to all LIW.Waiting is the hardest part in all this.
