Cervical Andenocarcinoma Success Story

tsw:

Did you receive your pathology report yet? That will tell you for certain what your diagnosis is.

I was initially diagnosed with in-situ as well. After my cone, my doctor thought my pathology report would show that I was clear because he didn't see anything. To his surprise AND MINE, it came back invasive (4mm in). Caught early, but still not comforting as cancer cells have a mind of their own. I am somewhat relieved that there is no vascular involvement.

However, more will be known after my hysterectomy, which is coming up this Thursday. My lymph nodes will also be removed to be on the safe side.

Considering metastisis to other organs, it is quite rare in early stage cancer. Unfortunately, no doctor can guarantee that it won't happen, especially on the microscopic level. We just don't have the technology to know for certain what the outcome will be. Still, if your cancer is low grade, you have reason to be optomistic because the odds are in your favor that you will be cured.

I personally believe that a positive attitude along with some quiet time for meditation and introspection is necessary in regards to the recovery process.

Best of luck to you.

tsw - if you get your pathology report, look for what it says about lymph-vascular space involvement. This "should" be in the report. If it says there is none, that is a very good thing. I was Stage 1a1 squamous, so a bit different than adeno, however just as unnerving as far as I'm concerned as it appeared in only 14 months and the docs thought it was only pre-cancerous. Nasty surprise. I did have clear margins and there was no evidence of lymph-vasc involvement. When I met with the gyn-onc, she said the chance of spread when the tumor is 1a1 (mine was 2mm) it is very, very unlikely. However, if the tumor had been even 2mm deeper, according to their guidelines I would have been having a radical. Instead I am having a TVH on Friday. I hope this helps a little ...

Eleni, good luck with your surgery on Thursday. I hope it goes well for you!

tsw, I take it you had your surgery locally --I had mine the same place. I am not sure how to send you a private email. If you can send me one, I would love to chat with you.
