how long do drugs stay in the system

Just wondering how long the effects of drugs can last.
I am post op 11 weeks, TAH, BSO.
Because I'd had a peritonitis infection in Sept (which was treated with very high dosage antibiotis via iv (cefotoxin and another I can't remember) after my surgery in Jan my gyn put me on more anti bacterial drugs just in case any infection was still lurking about, 2 days iv and then 9 pills for 5 days.
The drugs were augmentin 375mg (3 per day) and 400g (6 per day) of metronidazole.
Wasn't allowed to take HRT until I'd finished the other drugs.
Would the effects of these drugs wear of quite quickly, as I still feel fuzzy headed and my memory isn't up scratch either and concentration is bad.
Or could it be the HRT, I'm on 1mg a day of estrodiol, not enough, too much?
I believe metronidazole is very powerful and can have nasty side effects.
Has anyone had any similar experiences with drugs they've had to take after surgery?

how long do drugs stay in the system

Hi conyers

I am on Metronidazole at the moment for an infected heamatoma (19 weeks p/o)
I was also on them in the Hosp for a wound infection, the only problem I had with them then was nausea, as they (the nurses) insisted on giving me them with out food (you should eat before you take this Anti-B and avoid alcohol as it will give you an instant hangover)

I checked the list of warnings on my packet, it does list headaches, dizzyness and numbness of hands and feet. plus a few other things (like all drugs, this one has its side affects)
But if you are 11 weeks P/O then they should have been flushed out of your system well befor now. There for any side effects form the Anti-B's or anasthesia should have dissapated by now.

I would talk to your Dr about your HRT dossage, as this is a more likely to be the problem.

I think you are feeling the effects of the anesthesia. Antibiotics tend to make you feel like c*** but don't tend to give you brain fog. On the otherhand anesthesia can really whack you out. I had anesthesia twice in 6 months, once for EA, second for hyst in Nov. and have very little memory of Sept., Oct or Nov. and if I don't write it down now it's gone. It gets old having to retrace your steps to remember why you came here! I have just now started reading books again and can remember what happened the next time I pick it up. Give it time, it will get better!
