Steroids, I feel like a balloon!

Hello everyone

Toning me and DH got invited out to eat with some friends.
Well, when I went through the closet to find something to wear, I truly began to notice how big I am getting. Nearly all my clothes are getting tighter or they just are plain not fitting anymore.
I guess taking the steroids every week now with the Chemo has really caused me to balloon up Is this what they call "swelly belly"?
It really is depressing me, I have always had a little weight problem, but never like this. I get short of breath now too with exeration, so exercise is probably out. Any suggestions.

Steroids, I feel like a balloon!

actually , I think 'swelly belly' was supposed to refer to post-op abdominal swelling, but the post-steroids thing works for me, too!

You know, I never really noticed the bloat from steroids while I was getting them. It was only after , when I looked at my new drivers license picture (nice, right, to have to get a new license picture taken while in the midst of chemo and wearing a wig!?) that I notice just how 'cherubic' my face is. Yep, steroid bloating.
Another bonus courtesy of chemotherapy!

The good news: Chemo has a very important job to do. So a little bloating was the least of my complaints. And, well, I'm still fat. THAT didnt' go away after treatments!

Just an FYI: Let me tell you...if I knew THEN that I was going to gain back ALL the weight I lost post-surgery I would've been much much more attentive to what I was eating during treatments...because now I have the 'freshman 15' that is really being stubborn about hitting the road.

Steroids, I feel like a balloon!

Comment re steroids "balloon" effect - it does go away! My DS needed steroids for several months when he was 3 for ITP (immune thrombocytopenic purpura). He was on 60 mg. daily for a while and his face was so bloated he looked like a pumpkin, and kids at his preschool even commented on it. But when he was off the steroids, the bloating went away completely - and he never had any ill effects from it later - he's 23 now. so as unpleasant as it is to get that "balloon" look . . . this, too, shall pass . . .
Blessings - and I hope your chemo and steroids do wonders for you!

Steroids, I feel like a balloon!

(((Sugar)))))

Hated em, hated em, hated em........ for me, the steriods caused achiness even before chemo started. Also, they made me feel jittery and gave me a good case of insomnia....

Remember, it is all a temporary thing. I gained weight during chemo, so I attributed it to the steriods increasing my appetite!

Keep us posted on how your next treatment goes....
