Post Op Urethra pain

I had a TAH on 3/30/05 - uneventful and my recovery seemed to be going well until today. I am have severe pain when anything including my cotton panties touches my urethra. It is not at all like a UTI as it is not constant and is associated with contact.
Has anyone had a similar experience?

Hi

I don't have any experience to share---sorry. I hope someone will be along that does!

Have you called your doctor about this symptom? It's never a bad idea to do that. Maybe he/she could help shed some !

Post Op Urethra pain

Hi,

I experienced this type of pain, very sensitive to underwear and didn't even want to wear them, but due to drainage didn't have a choice. I was constantly looking for the most comfortable pair, finally concluded that it would be granny underwear. I did have bladder repairs/sling procedure with my LAVH, so this could have been related to the procedure, as there was a lot of swelling and blood loss. Since you had a TAH (I'm assuming no bladder work) maybe you should discuss this further with your doctor. Did they say that your surgery was difficult in anyway. Sometimes if they have difficulty with getting the uterus out the bladder can be moved around a lot. Especially if it was adhered to the bladder at all. This might be causing some of the urethra pain.

My bladder was adhered to my uterous and I had bladder pain and the same kind of sensitivity for about 6 wks. I still (5 mnhts post op) have sensitivity with underwear for some reason.
Call your dr and ask if he did have to move your bladder around alot. Another possibility is irritation from the cath during surgery.
good luck

Post Op Urethra pain

I am just a week out today, and am having alot of pain when I need to urinate and during urination. I called Dr. today, she sent me to get urinalysis. It came back fine. I will visit the Dr. tomorrow AM. She called in an antibiotic. My bladder was adhered to my uterus, they had to put some stiches in my bladder, but she says I should not hurt this much. I will let you know what I find out. I hope today finds you feeling better.
