Advice or answers needed
Hello Everyone.
I am hoping that someone can help me. Both DH and I are having issues with this....When we get hungry, or even when not hungry, every once in awhile we get such severe shakes. This morning I had a yogurt, and for lunch I had waffles. At 3:30 this afternoon, I started to shake something fierce. I assume that it has something to do with blood sugar lvls which both of ours are really good. I had to eat so had poached eggs. What is this, and why? I am still so very very shaky and it is hard for me to even walk I feel so weak. After eating my eggs, now I feel just stuffed but no better. I know that eating healthy and properly is not somethign I am good at, and breakfast is beyond me. I had a yogurt this morning, I have those little containers, probably 1/4 to 1/2 cup, low fat. I really dont like this feeling and want to know how to avoid it at all costs. I was not feeling hungry today, and now will be cookin supper for the boys late, and probably not eating anything more, cuz i feel so icky...
Anyone? I plan on asking my doctor but they had told DH that is was blood sugar and he needs juice, which didnt help me a bit earlier....
Thanks
kat

((((Kat)))) I hope you feel better by now
I noticed that you hadn't had any proteins (meat or meat substitute) and it was already 3:30. Just about every sound programs recommend having regular meals that include proteins. Proteins have a tendency to take a lot longer to be digested and will, in turn, sustain you throughout your day. Proteins can be nuts, cheese, eggs, fish, meat or legumes and you don't have to eat a whole lot to avoid these hunger pangs.
Carbs, OTOH, are very treachery: not only are they processed really fast, but they also tend to "fill you up" very fast, deluding you into thinking you're not hungry.... but leaving you hungry two hours later. Furthermore, carbs will cause you sugar levels to spike, very suddenly and will then fall, leaving you hungry and, even, can cause the symptoms you were having. I know those symptoms well: they are the ones I get when my blood sugar levels get too low This is especially true of processed carbs. If you're to eat only carbs, you're better off eating fruits than eating bread. Even the yogurt, it was flavored yogurt, have carbs in them... including the low-fat, sugar-free kind.
However, if this happens too often, or if you're still feeling shaky, even after having a meal, please, do call your doctor: there could be something else going on and it may need to be addressed.

Hi Dany,
Ok, so yogurt is not protein? lol I for some silly reason thought it was. Cheese, yogurt, hmmm wonder what the difference is??
I try to eat cheese every day, but my cheese is gone!! I thought maybe it was protein and that is why I had eggs. Ugh, this eating properly is for the birds. I did nto have my toast and peanut butter today, maybe that is why whatever hit me so hard. I usually have toast and PB around 11. that is lunch...I know, bad girl!!!
Ok, my new thing for the day is yogurt has no protein. And I have to eat my PB toast in the morning. And no, still feeling pretty shaky.... I am sure I will live tho, my DS thought maybe I might wither away...rofl I told him maybe in a year or so!! Got enough fat on this poor body to live for some time with no food.....
Thanks
Kat

Kat,
If you're feeling shakey perhaps you should see your doctor. If this is a new symptom than I think you should have it checked out.

With so many different eating plans out there, depending on what you are following, different foods fall into different categories. A carton of yogurt is about 100 calories, and unless you’re eating super huge waffles, and a few of them at that, a couple waffles might be 200 calories. 300 calories by 3:30pm isn’t enough, IMHO, to properly fuel your body. (unless you woke up at noon ).
In the food pyramid I use yogurt would be considered a milk exchange, and cheese would be considered a fat exchange, as would peanut butter. 8 ozs of lite yogurt is 33% carbohydrates and about 18% protein. 1 oz of string cheese is about 5% carbohydrates and 40% protein. Ounce for Ounce cheese is packed with more protein.
As Dany said, what you are eating is mostly carbs which will cause ups n down in your blood sugar levels … but I would guess the low calorie intake and length of time between meals, is more the culprit of your shakes. Either way if it’s something you experience often, a call to the Doc might be in order.
If you’re trying to eat healthier but don’t know where to begin, you might want to look into seeing a nutritionist or dietician. A lot of insurance plans offer free nutritional services through in-network hospitals.

Hi Everyone,
I am feeling much much better today. I think it was most likely not eating properly, and I made a goal to eat better this week, and so far, not doing so well!! I did get breakfast in, which consisted of cereal and milk, and my pb toast. Lunch was 2 mini pizzas. Supper is going to hamburgers, roast potatoes and most likely green beens, with apple crisp for desert. I am not a huge salad lover and veggies are beyond me. I can eat salad every day for a week, and then not again for a long time.
I was raised on meat, taters, and veggies, with a piece of bread in the hand opposite the fork!! (My dad had some wild ideas!) Then we always had some high fat, delicious desert. I rebelled and now my kid eats the way I wanted to when I was little. No breakfast, and pizzas for lunch. You would think he would get sick of them. I try to get him to take a pudding or some fruit or veggies for a snack, but nope, he is just like me!! I had to get waffles so he would eat something before heading off to school.
I definitely see a pattern, and one I have to change NOW. I cannot do to my son what I did to me. He is slender and active now, which is wonderful. However he wont stay that way long once he moves away if he continues on this way. I have fruits and veggies in my fridge, it is just pulling them out to eat them. Why do that when we can eat processed crap (scuse my french) Tomorrow I change, and hopefully without too much fight, he will follow an example.
Hugs
kat
