most reliable way for me to poop with prolapses!!
Thanks to many hystersisters, I learned a lot of tricks to help at potty time, as my deposits were getting "lost" and stubbornly hung up, on a daily basis. I am so very grateful to everyone.
Unfortunately, none worked consistantly for my weird, rebellious body, since I discovered a huge rectocele and probable enterocele that took up permanent residence this past week. So, I broke down and bought one of those little mineral oil enemas (I, at least, knew that a laxative enema would have been akin to suicide, having had my 1st, on the 5th postop TAH day.). Well, the mineral oil thing was FABULOUS............no cramping, pain, or discomfort of any kind. Was almost like the old days before my body let me down.....again.
So, my panic is over for now: I have a way to guarantee that I can poop (and that I shall not blow out my vagina...), as I wait for my doc visit.
Wonder if every other day is too much....................Anybody else using this method?....................Deb

hmmm
Hi,
Havent' heard of the mineral oil enema but I will give it a try since I have a large rectocele (wish I had never even HEARD of that word!
I am noticing that sometimes I can go easily and sometimes not and I know I am not evacuating completely. Really upsetting. I do a lot of things to ensure I will not get constipated.
I don't know whether long-term use of that is OK, but maybe some others can shed light on it. I am glad you are feeling better though!

most reliable way for me to poop with prolapses!!
My gyn's nurse said this cannot be a longterm method, but very occassional is alright.
For me, it is now the only way I can go.....so, I have permission to do 1 per day until my appointment in 8 more days. I've only needed it every other day, as things stay slick in there for that long, on only half the bottle. Still have to strain, but not to the point of feeling faint anymore.
I started taking Citrucil today.........will take a couple of days, I guess, to see how that works! I hear that some people take it twice daily......indefinitely.
Am not holding my breath on this remedy.............I even have trouble herding my farts out. So sad that I'm at the point where trapped gas finally making it out of my body is cause for celebration. I am still so mad...................which, I think, feels better than crying.....................Deb

Fibroid Woman, I'll be praying for you. Sounds like you are having lots of problems and I pray the doc visit goes well.
I'll be honest, I am just waiting for the day when I cannot do some of the things I could do, like GO to the bathroom! I am really mad about what has happened and irked at the GYN, I am going to get a second and even third opinion on what I have to see what really can be done, if anything. I sure am not going on count on her knowledge! I just have the feeling I will need surgery and I don't want it.
On the good side I have lost 10 pounds out of the 30 I want to lose, so there's some progress in some area!

most reliable way for me to poop with prolapses!!
Congrats on the weight loss!! I'm hoping that will be easier for me, seeing as that ..........since what goes in must come out.......I do not feel like eating any more than I need to survive. I even turned down a Godiva Chocolate bar with almonds and toffee!! My friend realized that I must be secretly scared to death when I turned that down.
I agree with you.............I'm doing as much research as possible before doc visit, and have also done my research who the best colorectal guy is in my neck of the woods, for another opinion. I'd like to find a urogyno specialist. My gyn is great, performed at his best during my TAH and has an excellent reputation....BUT, I want every possible advantage. I hope I am wrong, but I have the gut (pardon the pun!) feeling that this is going to be a long, yucky road.
Shall pray we all get through this as unscathed as possible.....Deb

((((Deb)))) I'm happy that you found something to help with your bowel movements What a relief it is when we finally can go!!! I never heard of the mineral oil enemas, but they do sound like very effective. Thanks for the tip.
One thing to remember, though, is the importance of being careful with OTC treatments: please use as directed and check with your doctor as to the recommended frequency. It's always best to err on the side of caution.
Sending tons of s your way.

I've lost 20+ pounds on the anti-constipation, anti-acid (i.e, bathroom issues) post-hyst diet.

By golly, Babs..............that is the first thing this week that has sounded like anything positive in my future right now. I remember when I thought Weight-Watchers was too much of an imposition.............silly, silly me.
I can honestly say that protecting what's eventually left of my gizzards will definitely rule what does not go in my mouth! I can look forward to losing some weight........... Deb

I have seen the mineral oil enemas and you are right, they should not be used long term without doc's permission. I have used in the past mineral oil by mouth for constipation and it works great. That might be something to consider also. It is not a laxative, but just oil that will slick everything up and make it easier to get out. It tastes totally nasty but it works great! I think I only had to take 2 tablespoons at a time...one thing you need to be careful of is possible oil leakage . It is not a lot, just a few spots here and there in your panties. Small price to pay for some poop in my opinion..

Deb -- I've been watching your posts and, boy, are we in the SAME BOAT!! I've been in denial, but there is definitely something wrong down there. (Loved the part about having to corral farts -- me too!! lol) This is the worst part of my recovery. I cannot bear even the thought about going to the doctor about it, so will keep taking colace, fiber laxatives, etc. Thanks for garnering all the helpful hints.
