hysterectomy april 21st

I am scheduled for total vaginal hysterectomy in ten days.
My history has been my first child was a c-section. I had precancer cells on my cervix that were monitored by coloposcopies
at 18. At 19 I had a laporoscopy for an ovarian cyst that showed by ultrasound had grown over a years time. They had planned to take my whole ovary, but the cyst ruptured the night before surgery, and so they were able to leave me with 1 1/2 ovaries. Fix my displaced uterus and remove fluid found behind it. At 20 I had my second child. Pre term labor with bedrest and meds was able to carry full term and deliver vaginally upon being induced. At 26 I had my third child. Pre term labor with bedrest and meds was able to carry full term upon being induced. My cervix failed to dilate on its own with all 3 children. I had the spinal for the second, and natural delivery for the 3rd. On the same day I found out I was pregnant with the 3rd, I found out I had cancer cells on my cervix, which they monitored during and following the pregnancy. One year later I had a leep procedure done and they removed 1/2 of my cervix. Around that time I developed problems with repeated superficial blood clots in my leg and was no longer able to use birth control because of it, so my husband had a vasectomy. After that I had symptoms of endometriosis. I had my 2nd laparoscopy July 1st, 2004 tissue removed due to endometriosis and they found a mass behind my ovary that was benign. Then they put me on depo provera, since I could not take birth control pills or tolerate any other treatments for endo. The depo depleted the estrogen in my body. I have had bleeding, abdominal, urethra, bladder pain since Jan. 2005. Then he tried estradiol, and it too gave me a very serious blood clot in a superficial vein in my leg. So I had to stop that. So now he has decided to do a total vaginal hysterectomy, removing my uterus and cervix. He also suspects adenomyosis, which he can only confirm after biopsy of my uterus when it is removed. He is leaving my 1 1/2 ovaries for estrogen production, because I cant take estrogen due to risk of clots. I cant take aspirin or blood thinners for clots due to stomach problems. I have other medical conditions and am on many medications. I will only have my 9 & 11 year old to rely on, as I am now divorced. The 11 year I homeschool. I welcome any advice, support, prayer, or info on similar stories. The part about the urethra and bladder pain confuses me as to how it all fits into this. Is this normal when your body is lacking estrogen. Is this normal for it to be a side effect from depo. Any advice on things I can do to speed up or help my recovery would be welcome. thanks for listening.

You certainly have had more than your share of problems

I can't answer your question about depo, I haven't had any experience with it. Hopefully someone will come by soon and be able to share with you on that.

My advice is to dicusss everything with your dr and then do as he/she suggests. Also listen to your own body - go slow and easy. I found that walking as soon as possible helped me a lot. I started the day after my hyst and walked ( short & easy at first ) , I rested a lot, ate properly drink lots of water. I had a fairly uneventful recovery.

best wishes.
