"contractions"? "tightness" in belly?

Is this normal? 5th day home for me from left ovary/tube removal. All day today my abdomen has been "tightening," and it feels like contractions! It's not gas pains, because I've had those and that feels very different. I certainly haven't been "overdoing" it - been a good girl going from bed to nice chair to bed and back all day. I wish I understood exactly what was normal and what was something to be concerned about - that's the worst part.

"contractions"? "tightness" in belly?

Hi Maureen,

Yes, I had the tightening that felt like contractions too a few days after getting home from the hospital...I am three weeks out and still get them if I have been sitting upright too long. (Like at the computer!) Mine are sort of low in my belly, above my horizontal incision. Early in recovery it helped to hold my tummy when I walked or climbed stairs, it felt more secure, less like everything would fall out.

Hang in there, it gets better every day! Take care of yourself and rest, drink your water and do a little walking every hour or so!

Thanks, Maggiemay - that makes me feel better to know that it's normal.

"contractions"? "tightness" in belly?

I also had the tightning in the belly the first week after surgery. My dr. said it was muscle spasms and that it was normal. He said anything from overdoing it to just thinking about your tummy can trigger them. They do go away. Hang in there!

I am 10 days post op and journaled about this very thing yesterday. I too have had a tightening in my tummy that feels like contractions.I have been trying to not over do it, but sometimes just being still trigger this strange sensation.I think it must be part of the healing process. Take it easy.
