Overnight stay only -- is that normal?

Hello Ladies,
I am scheduled for a vaginal hysterectomy (keeping ovaries) and rectocele repair on Tuesday 4/19. My doctor has said that I will be going home on WEDNESDAY! He also said to expect difficulty walking on Wednesday, to expect to have to lie down in the car on the way home, and that it's not unlikely that I'll go home with a bladder catheter still in place. He has stressed that the rectocele repair will likely be very painful.

I have become increasingly anxious about leaving the hospital so soon, so debilitated; and I am now in a near-panic state.

Is it normal to leave the hospital so soon? Should I ask (beseech, implore, BEG) him to let me stay longer?

Thanks for your support,
Nancy

Overnight stay only -- is that normal?

I had the same exact surgery. Had it on Mon. April 11 and was home on Tues. at 4:30 that evening. The ride home was a little rough, but it wasn't that bad. Just bring alot of pillows, use a least 2 to sit on. Drink lots of water in the castle, I mean lots, so when they take out the cathader, you'll have no problems going yourself. It worked for me. I was so hungry though, it was easy for me to drink lots of water. So good luck and don't waste your time worrying like I did. It will be alright!! J.D.

Overnight stay only -- is that normal?

I'm having vag with bladder repair and A&P repair, and am also scheduled to go home the next day. It seems fairly common to have just one day scheduled for vag. If you need to stay longer, the hospital will call the insurance company and get an OK for you to stay longer.

Overnight stay only -- is that normal?

I had the Vaginal Hysterectomy on Tuesday April 5 and came home on Wed. the 6th. I kept my Ovaries also.
The ride home was a bit rough, make sure they give you some pain meds right before they discharge you........it helps. Also pillows to sit on and a tummy binder are a MUST!!!
Good luck and I'm sending prayers your way

Overnight stay only -- is that normal?

I'm scheduled for May 2 for TVH and TVT bladder sling. I thought I would be out on the 3rd, but my precertification paperwork says that my discharge date is May 5th. I started freaking out about how long I will be in the hospital. I really hope to go home sooner than that. I want my own pjs in my own bed as soon as I can.

Overnight stay only -- is that normal?

I am scheduled for the same surgery except the repair will be a cystocele repair on April 19th as well! They say it will be just overnight as well.

My sister had the same surgery minus the repair work last July and the same doctor who will also do my surgery waited to discharge her until 32 hours post op.

It is my understanding that if they book me into the hospital on a 23 hour stay that they do not have to get preapproval with insurance. It is easier to get approval once you are in for a longer stay if you need it than to try and approve a 2 day stay up front. At least that is how the surgery coordinator explained it to me when expressed concern.

So don't be afraid to tell them you aren't ready to go home!! Good luck!

Overnight stay only -- is that normal?

I had a LAVH with bladder repair/sling procedure, anticipated 2 day stay but it ended up being 4 days due to post-op complications. If you need more time, your doctor will address that when you are in the hospital. It's difficult to predict what your needs will be now, but you will know (and your doctor will know) if you are not ready. I couldn't even get out of bed on day 2 due to low blood pressure from blood loss, so it was obvious my stay would be extended. Good luck with your surgery and recovery.

dont cha just love

How having a major surgery nowadays seems more like a drive-through window service. I also have been told I am to expect an overnight stay for TVH on the 25th. Now ladies Im a spunky one so let me tell ya something with a lil advice.... I will NOT leave that hospital until I feel safe... I have 2 DD's at home 7 and 4 who are very excitable. If I am not well enough to be home I feel I shouldnt be here. But who knows I may be begging my way out of the castle.... I guess nerves are on edge .....I just hope you all have a speedy recovery.

Overnight stay only -- is that normal?

Hi ladies. Had a TVH on 3-23 at 11 am. Was released the next day by 9 am. An overnight stay has become the norm for a vaginal hysterectomy these days, unless your DR expects problems. My prayers to you and I wish you a speedy recovery.
