Hi all. I just found this website, and it was just in time! After several biopsies, my dr. just informed me I have cervical cancer, stage 1A. The gyn. oncologist and pathologist recommended my only safe treatment option is a total vaginal hysterectomy which is scheduled for May 23. This all progressed within the past year as I have always had normal Pap smears. Right now I just feel like an emotional train wreck! I'm 30 years old and have 2 wonderful kids. Both my pregnancies were difficult and high risk...we hadn't planned on more kids, but I did get pregnant in early March and miscarried. I'm not sure how to feel now that the option of fertility is going to be taken away, however I do realize my health and ability to care for my family is more important. There is just so much going through my head!:confuse: I also worry that they will find the cancer is more than 3mm into the cervix and has spread elsewhere. I'm looking forward to learning and growing from all of you ladies!

Karen,

Welcome. This site has been a life saver for me. I am so sorry that you miscarried, that alone is hard to deal with. I can understand what you are going through regarding the cancer. I also had cervical cancer, but it was stage 1b1 and it was 7mm and did not spread to any other organ or into my lymph nodes. I had a TAH last year and I feel much better since the cancer is gone. I am also 30 years old, but I have no children. One thing that always makes me remember how good I have it is when I think of all the people young and old who are losing their battle with cancer. Cancer is hard to deal with, but I feel my TAH was a small price to pay to stay alive and be able to enjoy my family. After you have you TVH and get the all clear you will start to feel better. I know I did. Just knowing that the cancer was gone was a relief. I hope everything goes good for you on May 23. Take care!

Karen,
I am so sorry you are facing this and know it is not easy for anyone and you already have been through so much recently. I don't think anyone one would chose to be on this forum but I know you will find much great support, information sharing, etc. here from a group of very special ladies.
Please remember that as Jolynne said - you will feel better as time goes on and especially once the cancer is removed. It is important that you already are in the hands of a gyn/oncologist. The waiting can be very hard and please don't hesitate to ask your doctor for someting to relieve anxiety or to bring sleep, etc. as needed. I will keep you in prayer as you bravely face this illness and for a very successful surgery and easy recovery.

I was also diagnosed with cancer, but for me it was ovarian. It can be and will be a very scary time for you. Please rely on all of your new found sisters, they are a wealth of knowledge and support. If you have any questions just ask, there will be someone along shortly who has the answers. This website was a godsend to me, and all of the resources were very helpful.
Good luck to you, and I'm wishing you a speedy and uncomplicated recovery.

Karen,

First of all, welcome to the board! I am so sorry you are having to go through this.

I was diagnosed with cervical adenocarcinoma, stage 1b1, and had a TAH on 3/22/05. My first and only abnormal pap was in January. My path reports came back clear and now I go in every 3 months.

I to had a hard time accepting that I could no longer have children. I have 1 son and wanted more. It is not so much of wanting more children but having the choice taken away. You are on the right path by realizing being here for your family is definitely more important than trying to add to your family.

Best of luck and my prayers are with you!
