Question about incisions?

I read a post somewhere this morning which led me to this question. I was just assuming that I would be cut in the same bikini cut where I had my cesarean section until I read this post. Have any of you had to have a different incision because your fibroid grew and if so do you know if there is a cutoff size of the fibroid as to when the doctor decides to change where he cuts you? I had my ultrasound on May 15th and I do feel like it is some bigger than it was then because of the increase in pain and pressure. Also my stomach is protruding and it wasn't, plus I have gained 2 pounds since then. I haven't changed my eating. I go this afternoon and sign papers. I am planning to ask about this but won't see the doctor, so I don't know if the surgery scheduler will know or not.

Question about incisions?

i had a 20 week fibroid taken out through a bikini incision. Then a hyst (16 wk uterus) removed through the same incision. You still have a vertical incision aswell- but its hidden underneath the skin

Question about incisions?

It is most likely that the doctor will decide which type of incision is best, once he sees you in the operating room.

I knew ahead of time that the doc would attempt a bikini incision, but if need be, he would have to do a vertical. I told him to do whatever he needed to do, but to get rid of as much endo as he possibly could.

I was lucky and had a bikini incision, although it was pretty long (about 10"). It healed beautifully.

Question about incisions?

My incision was exactly the same as my c-sections. The good part is all the nerves are dead and I have virtually no pain. I would suspect that if it is at all possible they will use the same site. They took a whole baby out through there, surely they can fit an enlarged uterus???

However like always only your DR can say for sure.

Question about incisions?

I have an 18 week size uterus and 2~ 9 cm fibroids, and my doctor said she was going to use the same place where my c-section was (bikini line.) There was no talk about it changing if need be, but I also am not experiencing the increased pressure or size that you describe.

Hope this helps!

Question about incisions?

I was told pre-op that I would have two incisions -- one a hip-to-hip horizontal one for the panniculectomy procedure, one a vertical one from my pubis to my navel (mirroring my second c-section scar).

I was pleasantly surprised when I woke up and I only had the hip-to-hip incision. Sure, I still have the other scar, but at least it was less to heal this time!

The docs don't always know what they'll need before surgery. In my case, they were able to cut less than expected.
