6 surgeries at once

My dr told me last week that she is actually doing 6 surgeries....TVH, anterior & posterior repairs, bladder sling, rectocele, and systoscopy.

How many of you have had these done and what can I expect for recovery?

6 surgeries at once

Hi,

My tvh included a & p repairs and my dr just repaired the wall under the bladder to hold it in place but I didn't have the sling. Rectocele repair is the same a posterior repair....it's the "P" in a & p repair.

Plan on being out a good 6-8 weeks for recovery. What helped me a lot was a donut pillow to sit on as your bottom is going to be a little sore. I tried to avoid hard chairs but this was wonderful if I had to sit on one. You will probably be tired for several weeks so just take it slow. Be a good princess and hopefully it will prevent problems down the road. Listen to your body...if you get tired, stop and rest.

Do get lots of sleep, drink plenty of water and take little walks during the day. This will help loads in your recovery. And read all you can here so you feel prepared!!

6 surgeries at once

Hi Sparklies,
I had the exact same thing you're describing last week and am doing remarkably well. I had a urogyn doing the surgery with a GYN assisting her. Was in surgery for 2 1/2 hours then moved to recovery. I had very little pain right from the start. Pressed the PCA pump a few times, but really was only feeling pressure from the packing and the two catheters. Never did have much pain from the hysterectomy right from the beginning. The pressure was relieved when the DR took out the packing and the foley the next morning. I walked a lot in the halls that morning due to enormous gas pressure and went home that afternoon.

My doctor requires a voiding trial prior to removal of the suprapubic catheter. They close off the catheter and allow the patient to void in a measuring cup. Then the catheter is opened and any urine left in the bladder is drained. She won't remove the catheter until the patient routinely voids more than 150 cc at a time and there is less than 50 left in the bladder. I failed at that test so had to wear the catheter home, but it was removed three days later.

I've been walking 4-5 times per day for a total of about a mile. Been taking a nap in the middle of the afternoon, but have not felt much fatigue after the first couple days. It is uncomfortable sitting straight upright, especially in a hard chair. I find it more comfortable to stand or slightly recline rather than sitting up straight. Laying down for too much time increases the gas and makes my back ache.

I realize that everyone is not going to recover this quickly, but want you to know that it is possible. Be careful not to lift anything after surgery.

Good luck.
Ashley
