Fish oil, Eve. Primrose Oil, B12...What am I doing??

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone on this site....it is priceless.

I am scheduled for my TAH/BSO May 17th. In preparation for this, I decided to start on a good regime ahead of time.

I had heard that all of these (mentioned in title) were good for you. So, I got all excited and went out and loaded up on these things. I also got Flax Seeds that I add to my food. AFTER I came home, I started reading up on how much and with what.

Here's what I have:

Super-Omega 3 Fish Oils: 300mg EPA & 200mg DHA
B-12 (Prolonged Release): 1000 mcg
Evening Primerose Oil: 500mg (GLA: 50mg)
Costco Brand Multi (compared to Centrum Silver)

I take 1 of the Fish Oil, 1 of the B-12, and 4 of the EPO.

I read something about a ratio of Fish Oil and EPO??? 4 EPO to 1 Fish Oil?? Should I only take 2 EPO? That still puts me at 3:1, not 4:1.

Also, I read that B-6 is good for estrogen-taking women (I'll be on the patch.) Should I trade-in my B-12 for B-6????

I should also add some calcium and magnesium to this formula of vitamins. How much?

Should I also be taking Folic Acid?

GEEZ, LOUISE!! This is definatly a jungle! Who do I ask for the right formula? A pharmasist? Hopefully someone here can help clear things up!!!

Thank you in advance.....your input will be taken to heart!

Fish oil, Eve. Primrose Oil, B12...What am I doing??

Hi flybyday

Here is a link to the recommended supplements we should consider taking while on estrogen therapy. It gives a great explanation of why we should use them and how much is recommended.
Necessary Supplements

I found that most of the recommended amounts are in my
multi-vitamin (all the B vitamins, folic acid, zinc etc: )

The additional calcium in my opinion is a must.
I have read that the ratio of calcium to magnesium should be a 2:1 ratio. So if you are taking 1200 mg of calcium, you should take 600 mg of magnesium.

Here is a link to evening Primrose oil. At the bottom of the article it gives you the amount to use and the ratio of fish oil that should be taken.
Evening primrose oil

I hope this helps.

Flybyday,
Do be sure and let your doctor know that you are taking these supplements as some supplements may need to be discontinued before your surgery. There is a helpful list here: FYI: Herbs Not to Take Even if you don't find anything you're taking on this list, you should still check specifically with your doctor.
