Can you do a Hysterectomy and Tummy Tuck?
Hi,
This is my first time on the forum. I just found out that I need a Total Hysterectomy and will have it done in April. I am 52 and wondered if a tummy tuck is possible also? How do you approach your Ob/GYN about that? Is it a huge additional cost and does it extend your recovery time? I am scared and full of questions. I have always been pretty healthy and active. I have had two great kids and expecting my first grandchild in August. I would like to continue being a healthy, youthful, good looking grandma. I would appreciate any advice on the inclusion of a tummy tuck with the total hysterectomy. Also, I am so thankful to have found this site. It has already been a blessing to me. You are helping lots of us. Thanks

Can you do a Hysterectomy and Tummy Tuck?
Hi, Jan5. I am 52, also, and had my TAH/BSO in December. I can't speak from personal experience as I didn't have a tummy tuck but the lady I work with did when she had her hysterectomy. I have also read one or two post here where the ladies were having this procedure. The lady I work with said it did take her a little longer to recover (about 10 weeks) but of course that might not apply to everyone. I have been told since this is considered cosmetic surgery most insurance companies won't pay for it. As far as asking your OB/GYN, I would just come out and ask him/her. I made a whole list of questions to ask mine, everything from type of incision to would he recommend an abdominal binder after surgery, that I really doubt your doctor would mind.
Good Luck to you. I know it's easy for us "crowned" princesses to say, but the waiting is truly the worst part.

Can you do a Hysterectomy and Tummy Tuck?
Sure you can have tummy tucks, insurance companies don't pay for most cosmetic, but I hear the procedure can be arranged, gyn and surgeon...You will need to ask around for a good surgeon, but many do have it done. It runs around $5,000. You can make arrangments with the surgeon for payment.
Don't know how long the recovery will be for the extra. You should be able to find out on this site. I know I had read about some that have had it or have arranged to have it done soon.
Good luck,
