Hi - I'm new to this forum. I recently visited my gyn because of frequent, heavy periods with terrible cramps. I had an ultrasound and the Dr said I have a "golf ball" size cyst in my left ovary and its separated. I'm not having any pain. Also my uterine lining is thickended. I had a CA125 test and according to the Dr.'s office it is within normal range (9.25). Are there suggested questions to ask? There is no family history of ovarian cancer. I'm 46 years old. Could this just be associated with the start of menopause. My nickname is "Sticks", lovingly provided by my brother because I'm thin and my legs are thin.
Fluid filled cysts are common.
Septated cysts are complex. This raises a concern.
Ca 125s are not always good diagnostic tools.
Especially in premenopausal women.
Getting a second opinion from a gynecologic oncologist would be very reasonable.
Best wishes.
Thank you for the replies. I'm going to have another ultrasound in 6 weeks. The doc said if the cyst is still large then we would have to discuss options. We didn't really discuss the uterine lining.
Septated cysts do raise concerns...but, that doesn't mean that it's cancer necessarily. Could be an endometrioma, a cystadenoma or a dermoid cyst. But the the cyst probably *will* have to be evaluated to rule out cancer. What does the doc say?
The doctor hasn't said very much, just that if the cyst is still there when I have the next ultrasound (June), we will have to address it. Thanks for all the responses. Its comforting to know this forum is here.
