what to keep!!ahh decisions!!

Hi gals just wanted to sahre what I found surfing the web..I am having LSH on May 9th and am going over and over in my mind if this is he right surgery option for me. I did a websearch after of course consulting my second bible..hystersis.com and found this link from obgyn.com about this procedure and also the importance of keeping your cervix..thought y'all might wanna check it out...

CRCJTM,

Thanks for providing that link. It would have been nice if I'd seen more positive data about LSH before my surgery. Since I knew there was a good chance my LSH would be converted to abdominal, I researched whether or not to keep my cervix. I found a lot of conflicting data and my own Dr. said keeping it wasn't necessary. My gut told me it was necessary to keep it, and since I had a healthy cervix, I didn't see the point in removing it. My Dr. supported my decision, though he disagreed. In the end my LSH was successful, so it wasn't an issue. I had my surgery on 1/28 and feel great. I am so happy to have had LSH. It was not painful, and recovery was fast. I would definitely not have been able to return to work at 2 or 3 weeks though! I think 4 to 6 weeks is more like it, depending on what kind of work you do.

Good luck to you.

my dr says

I talked to my doctor about my up[coming tah on wed., I asked him if keeping my cervix was important and he gave me a very detailed answer as to how the issue of keeping the cervix started. In a nutshell when they started doing supercervical hysterectomies they did not have antibiotics, so keeping the cervix was imperative to keep infection out ! The cervix has no sexual function(I'm 38 and I am still learning as is my husband hah), plus by removing it there is no need to go back in when cervical cancer possibliy pops up! I will trust my dr, he was the first in a line of many that looked into my symptoms. My Tah is a mere 11 days away! God bless all for all your info and support
