The good news is I don't have to have a hysterectomy as I was told on Friday in ER (long week here at the Flores house) There are two new procedures that I am having done. (that's the bad news) This first is Laparoscopy, three holes in my tummy to go in and take a cyst off my left ovary and if unable to then to remove the entire ovary. The second is Novasure to go in from the bottom and put a triangle stint in my uterus and then burn it entirely then remove the stint. This will stop be from ever flowing again. (yeah). I am having both done Thursday. I have an extremely tipped uterus so he said that it has only happened once that he couldn't do it. If I am that unlucky he said he will wake me and then reschedule a hysterectomy
My question is should I do this? and how will I know if something is wrong later with my right ovary if I dont bleed any more?
Help Thank you Cathy

It sounds like your doctor is being very conservative and wants to help you keep everything you've got.

Your question about your remaining ovary is a good one.

Most women still have "cycles" after a hysterectomy, I don't see why it would be different with ablation. Just think of everything you notice in your body with your regular cycle and then subtract the bleeding.

My cycle after the hyster is quite the same, I get the cervical mucus discharge at ovulation and an oddly enhanced sense of smell, then at PMS my breasts get tender and I get a bit of acne on my chin and neck.

If you're very concerned about another cyst, they often resolve themselves, if not, you'd probably feel it and another lap could be done to drain it. If you're worried about cancer, keep track of your cycles and note any changes, especially if you experience any of the symptoms of ovarian cancer.

The good news is that there are also some blood tests coming onto the market soon that will be able to detect ovarian cancer much earlier. The first one is due to be used in Australia later this year.

Let us know how your procedure goes.

Take care.

Hi Cathy

One of my ablation friends who has PMS said she did have a little bit of a mystery with her cycles at first. When she’d be in a bad mood she wasn’t sure if it was a PMS thing or just a random bad mood. Eventually she was able to read her body and made notes on her calendar so she’d have an idea when she would’ve been menstruating. Some women still have scanty periods or spotting but many do not..
I had an ablation (rollerball method) last year and tolerated the procedure very well. I was discovered to have adenomyosis so my ablation didn’t work for me, but I was glad I tried it. I think it’s a great option for many women and I hope the procedure works well for you. Good luck on Thursday. Let us know how you do, ok?

Best wishes & s,
Beth
