This hysterectomy has changed me....has it changed you???
This hysterectomy has changed me.
I am now almost 4 weeks out and it's not that I don't miss my work because I do....but I kind of like taking a bath in the morning.
I like wandering around the house when no one is home to ask me to make them something, take them somewhere, give them something.
I like holding the television remote and switching the channel repeatedly and not watching that stupid Simpson's cartoon.
I like Oprah Winfrey. I like watching it everyday.
I like surfing the web,and checking the Hystersisters site threads that I'm participating on.
I think I will miss this time.
Anyone else feel this way?

Yes! I enjoyed the time off too - only thing that would've made it better was being in perfect health to do whatever I wanted during that time...but restful as it was. Told DH if he'd just win the lottery while I was off I wouldn't go back!

i agree. this has changed me also. This is day 28 for me and I love being home all day. Taking an afternoon nap and keeping up on the laundry and household chores on a daily basis. Not rushing to do everything at night or on the weekends. I will miss this when I get back to my office. I work in a city highrise, fast paced and hectic. I will savor these last 2 weeks.

I have always loved and adored my dh, but after this recovery period I have fallen in love all over again. He has been been my rock and superhero threw out and never made me feel like I was being lazy.
I have also found out who my real friends are ( kinda a painful lesson). I have also made some good friends threw hystersisters and I am so grateful for them.
I really appreciate people alot more now!!!

I used to think I would be bored not working. I actually used to say that if I won the lottery, I wouldn't quit my job. Not anymore. I like being a Lady of leisure. The bad thing is now that I am finally feeling almost normal, there are so many things I wish I could have done around the house. I go back to work Monday, just when the weather is supposed to be in the 70's and I could be planting flowers. Maybe I'll go buy some Mega Millions lottery tickets. It doesn't hurt to dream!

Oh, Lord YES! I agree with everybody! The six weeks I was off were the BEST! Wasn't bored at all - I'm even looking forward to my retirement, which I was rather dreading (still quite a way though - alas)!
I surprised myself by getting in touch with my spiritual side. Found myself singing old hymns as I did the dishes, reading my Bible and listening to Joyce Meyers, when she was on. I also read all the Mitford books by Jan Karon, which were wonderful.
I learned how really fun it is to be a cat. Eat, play, nap, eat play nap.
I found that Buffy is on twice a day and that Judge Judy is really interesting.
And that solitude can be a true friend.

Me too, although I only had 2 weeks off before I had to go back to work. The first week and a half my mother in law took the kids everyday to and from school and even though I appreciated the help I loved the three days without her being here. I loved the time off so much that I am still having a hard time getting mentally back into work.
Too bad we cant all have a few weeks a year just to relax with out pain from surgery.
Hope all is doing well.

I agree -- this has changed me too! I didn't think it would bother me to have my uterus & ovaries removed, but sometimes when I think about it, it kind of freaks me out! (does anyone else feel this way?!?!?!) Really surprises me because I am not a squeamish person, but I keep imagining what my insides look like with my organs gone!! OK, by now you all are probably thinking I'm a nut!! I work at a Veterinary Clinic, so I have seen many surgeries done on animals, guess that's why I think about how MY insides must have looked!
Anyhow, I actually feel a little guilty laying around a lot, but also know that I need to in order to heal.
I have always been very sympathetic to people with health problems and in nursing homes etc... (my one dog is therapy dog-visits nursing homes)but this experience has made me even MORE sympathetic & empathetic-- when your health is your main concern for the day! At least we all know that we will feel better in time, but my heart goes out to those who sit & suffer every single day. I keep telling all my friends, hubby & relatives, be thankful for every day that you feel good and are healthy because that's really all that matters! zanylynn

I am bored to death - but then I am an A/A personality type.....
DH is talking about retiring - again! BTDT - sold my business etc - and he drove me NUTS -- 24/7 of DH is tiring (I think I go to work to get peace - LOL)...
The 'not working' isn't as big of an impact because I control my schedule (one of the perks of being self employed or 'the boss') - I have no one to answer to but the bottom line. When not working, I miss the mental challenge.
As I have to come to grips with the latest retirement (not real soon, but probably in 1-1/2 to 2 years) - I may keep working just for the break. Now how do I explain this to DH? That is the challenge.

I Just adore these responses and can so identify with them...
Eat play nap eat play nap..how nice it is to be a cat.....that is so cute.
Falling in love again..wooo sister you hit the jackpot.
Learned who your real friends are...useful.
Another one of mine a direct result of the surgery is moving slowly.
What or why am I always running for.
I'm running to work I'm running home,I'm running to the store to meet a friend to go to the doctors on and on and on now suddenly I'm on an enforced stop...
and this morning as I waved my husband off to work. I noticed there is a lot of sky over my house,I never noticed how much sky there was.(Unless I am at the beach then I tend notice)
I haven't been bored yet but I am not sure what that word means. If someone needs something to do try sitting in front of a blank piece of paper and writing a letter to a soldier in Iraq. It is an easy "good deed". Addresses for letters of this type can be found on the web.
Regarding the post-surgical body parts remark,"what did they look like" yea...I had grosser thoughts then that I wondered if the surgical team went out for hamburgers after my surgery together or something.
