What is that BULGE - NOT the swelly belly, but the bulge right above the incision???

I have that bulge right above the incision, and I'm 2.5 weeks out. It's a little pinkish bulge about 3/4 inch wide right above the incision - is that normal??? When does the stupid thing go away? Like some of you, I also had a flat stomach pre-op, now I have not only that stupid little bulge right above the incision, but my abdomen looks like I've got a fat roll around it. A double bulge/roll *yuck* What is it - I mean, that bulge. That bugle is different from swelly belly. Any insight?

I had a "bulge" on the right side incision (LAVH) 2 weeks post op and I found myself always touching and playing with it. One day it just popped and I freaked out thinking I did something horrible. The Dr said it was just a cyst inside the incision and no big deal. I still have a smaller one on the pelvic incision that is still there 4 weeks post op, but I'll just let it go until my next visit.

I sometimes feel like I annoy the Drs office with my constant phone calls about "is this normal", but then if they were better about telling me all these little things, I wouldn't have to bug them so much. I am the consumer and it's their job to answer these questions for us!

Good luck and hope yours goes away soon!

Lisa

P.S. My abdomin appears almost normal in the morning, but is huge and looks like a spare tire by afternoon, anyone else have this? Is it just normal daily life now or will it go away?

I have found control top hose wonderful to keep the sweling down and keep the 'everything is moving around' feeling at bay. I have only worn control top for years so it's all I had in the drawer. Guess a control top panty would do the same.

I even wear the hose under pants - no more trouser socks for me.

I too am swollen right above the incision - and have been told numerous times that it will go away when it's ready to. The tissue has been traumtized and it's a normal reaction of tissue to swell when injured. Think of a twisted ankle - same principle.

If you have a 'bulge' - call your doc and ask - and ask what you can do for it too. It may be more than routine swelling.

I have just started actually feeling a soreness in the bkini cut - it was totally numb above and below about an inch each way - so I guess the nerve endings are finding each other -- which I am happy about.

Worst thing was the hair growing out thru the glue - did that ever itch!

What is that BULGE - NOT the swelly belly, but the bulge right above the incision???

Greetings, Hyster Sisters!

Can't believe I saw this topic!!!

YES, I do have a horizontal bulge that runs above my horizontal bikini cut. I am 108 pounds, 5'3" -- not used to ANY bulges! Giggles at this!

Not sure what this horizontal bulge is. I too call my office and have asked many questions. They don't get annoyed as they put me thru to the GYN nurse who had a hysterectomy when she was single/quite young. She is super excellent about it all. Good Doc is outstanding, but after all, I know he isn't going to cover it all 100% unfortunately.

Yes, just wear a girdle or some kind of control top to keep it all tight.

Sincerely, Michele in Jersey

I am 2 1/2 weeks post op horizontal incision and I have the same bulge you are talking about. I asked my Dr about it in the hospital and he said it was where the muscles came back together where they were stretched apart during surgery and they weren't knitted back together yet. He said that it would heal over time and just be careful about bending over. He also told me that a band or girdle would not help it to mend any faster because it is tissue healing and it will heal at it's own rate, but I could use some type of control band or swelly belly band for comfort.
That fat roll thing sounds like swelly belly and from what my nurse told me can take 6 - 12 months to go down and stay down. She said it takes a FULL 6 months to recover from this type of surgery.
I'm used to having a flat tummy too and it's so aggravating because I can't wear any of my jeans. I hope that I feel like going shopping for some comfortable capri's and shorts for the summer that have some give in the middle. I am so sick of my grey lounge pants!!!
Hugs to all,
Tammy

It is very disconcerting - I KNOW!! however, my experience is that it has flattened out, and in fact my tummy is flatter than it has been in ages.

Hang in there - but if you seen new swelling, or it feels hot, or is painful do report it to the dr.

purple bulge

Yes, I have the swelly belly and had a bit of a bulge (pinkish) around my incision too. However, I fell on Friday. It didn't seem so horrible at the time (though I called a friend to help me off of the floor), but yesterday (shower day..haha) I noticed a bulge on the incision on the right side (it is about 2" long by about 1"wide). It it not sore to touch, nor is it hard...but it is very dark purple in color. Does this sound weird? Should Icall the doc?

Hey Lisa,
My doc said the evening swelling was normal. Also, lots of women on the site say the same thing. So I think, normal!

Is funny that cause i had the same question in mind, i didnt have an hysterectomy, but i had my left ovary and tube removed because of cysts. Im 6 weeks tomorrow and tuesday i return to work and today i was trying on some pants and i was so annoy the way they fit, i have that bulge and i dont like the way my pants look, and now i hear it can take 6 months to go down,

I was thinking since my surgery was different than a hysterectomey with a bikini cut
would it also take me this long for my bulge to go down. I also have part that is numb and sore.

Hi does it go away when you lay down? I am 8 weeks post op and I noticed mine at 3 weeks. Went to the dr. because showed signs of infection. he gave me antibiotics, but at my 5 weeks check up I told him I think I have a hernia. He said no. I went to the dr.s the other day to check the cuff and I said, I am going to stand up for you so you can see. As soon as I did he said "you are right you have a hernia. Can not tell laying down. So went and saw a general surgeron and he wants to wait at least a month (too soon after hysterectomy). since it is so big, he said no worry of being incarserated just NO lifting. My ob/gyn said it is very rare to get one on a bikini cut. If it doesn't get better check with you doc. Hope you all feel better.
