golf ball sized cyst!! help me please
Hi,
I just had an ultrasound this morning and was shown that I have a rather large cyst on my right ovary. I just have a few questions that I forgot to ask my doctor, hope someone can help:
Why do I have to wait a month to see if it goes away? I've been in pain for 2 weeks now, cant my doctor do something for it now?
Are my fevers that come and go related to the cyst?
My doctor asked me at my intial exam 4 days ago if I have in pain in my lower back, why would he ask me that? I said no, but now I notice a dull pain near my hip directly behind my ovary.
I did have a LAVH (laproscopic aided vagianl hysterectomy) in Feb of 2004 due to endometriosis and abnormal bleeding. My doctor said that if the pain persists that its a possible there is some endometriosis lingering around the ovaries.
Thanks for listening; I just thought after the Hysterectomy I would be 100% better with no worries!!! Guess I was wrong..
Thanks for listening, any and all help would be appreciated.... Kari

golf ball sized cyst!! help me please
Hi,
I had my LAVH 3 years ago. I had another surgery 11 months ago to remove my right ovary and adhesions; I started having problems with cysts about two years after my hysterectomy - my doctor had been watching the cysts for any changes. They had gotten larger and turned from simple, fluid-filled cysts to complex, solid-mass cysts. My surgery was done laparoscopically. The right ovary was adhered to the top of the vaginal cuff and covered with adhesions and cysts - it was removed. All the pathology came back benign. My left ovary had some fluid filled cysts that were drained and then the ovary was wrapped in mesh to protect it.
Some cysts go away on their own - some need to be removed. When I began to have problems last year my doctor and I decided to take the "watch and wait" approach for a few months. I had vaginal ultrasounds every 2 months to check the status of the ovary and cysts. The reason we decided to go ahead and remove the ovary was because the cysts changed from simple, fluid-filled cysts to complex, solid-mass and my pain was greatly increased. My doctor said when a cyst begins to change in size and appearance (complex & solid) it needs to be evaluated surgically.
Whether or not cysts need to be removed depends on the size of the cyst, its appearance, any symptoms you may be having related to the cyst. Sometimes just the cyst can be removed and the ovary can be saved.

golf ball sized cyst!! help me please
Thanks so much for your input. I've been in pain now since April 25th now. I'm worried it might be a serious one, who knows it might be endometriosis.
The pain is some what tolerable, only really bothers me when I'm sitting or laying down. And I only need to take a few motrins to releave it.
I guess I'm worried I might lose the ovaries. Whats it like to have the ovaries removed? How long are you off work? Is there lots of pain? Basically, is it similar to the Hysterectomy?
Thanks again for your insight....Kari

yooperchic, Yes I had cysts on my ovaries they would pop and they would come back put up with this for five years.Told my dr.that I can't do this anymore. So I finally had a hysterectomy and thay took my ovaries and did a pathology report on them. They like to wait a month to see if it gets any bigger.Usually thay will give a blood test to see if your cancer level is high.It is not that bad having them removed at first i thought i would be a lesser woman but your not.You will however experience hot flashes and it might take a while to get the patch for the hormone at the right level for your self.Just hang in there you will get threw this I keep telling myself I won't have to go through the pain anymore.
