seroquel...anyone take it?

OK, called my Dr today, she prescribed Seroquel for my ongoing anxiety. (I know it is used to treat Schizophrania in larger doses, but she she is prescribing 25 mg. 1 in the AM and 2 at night. This seems like a lot to me, am sure I will only start with 1 at night and see how it does.) I am scared to take it since I could not take anti-depressants ie. exefor, zoloft, sarafem, and exeforxr. But as I understand, this is not an anti-depressant but a mood stabilizer. Hopefully it will not contain whatever I react to in anti-depressants. I want to hear your experiences good and bad.

On the flip side I can take Xanax, which I have been taking so far for anxiety, I just don't take more than a 1/2 at a time, otherwise I feel kind of "rubbery". I can take most meds, just not anti-depressants.

Thanks,

Susie

seroquel...anyone take it?

Susie,
My doc put me on Seroquel a while ago...but I was on a much higher dose. 200 mg in fact. I couldn't take it at all...It knocked me out cold...and I mean knocked me out! But you are on a much lower dose....I have heard absolutely wonderful things about Seroquel...It's a fabulous mood stabilizer...but everyone is different so it's hard to predict how you might react.

But to answer your question... This is a drug that should be increased very slowly until the appropiate dose is reached. 25 mg seems like a very reasonable dose to me but I am not a doctor, I'm just going by my experience with it.

Hope all works out well for you.

hugs,
Angi

seroquel...anyone take it?

Hi Susie, I take 25mg in the morning and 100mg at bedtime and do very well. It is a very good medication for anxiety. The 25mg makes me a little sleepy during the day, but I have gotten used to it. I haven't experienced any "loopy" sensations.

Thanks for your replies, hope to hear from others. Thats exactly what its supposed to help is my anxiety. I wake up in the morning and the only thing that makes me feel better is when I am moving...walking. When I sit down I have a very anxious feeling. I can't be walking ALL the time, so what I try to do is zone out watching TV, concentrate on that so my mind does not think about my body.

What is is prescribing is 25 mg in the AM but 50 at night, so didn't know if 75 per day was going to be too much. Thanks again to all, I guess I will not be too afraid to take it.

To the first reply, what do you mean by "knocked me out". Made you sleep?

Susie
