insomnia, will it ever end!!!

Hi Ladies:
Almost one year post surgery and I am still struggling with insomnia. I have tried just about everything. I thought I had found the right hormones for me (I am currently receiving the del estrogen and testosterone shot and prometrium). It worked for a few weeks. Slept well. Now I receive my shot and not until one week after the shot do I feel relief from insomnia. In other words, I suffer from insomina for about a week after my shot, then something kicks in, I feel great for a few days, sleep well, then BOOM, here comes the insomina again. So I suffer for one week, get some days of sleep, then around the second week of the shot, my insomnia returns.

I want to try the compounded creams again. since I have been receving consistently estradial, testosterone, and progesterone. does anyone know if maybe insomnia is caused by a estrial being low? does anyone know if one form of estrogen being deficient(estradial, estrone or estrial) may cause insomina over another? Please Please some help from those who have been through this. Thanks Lucy

insomnia, will it ever end!!!

Hi Lucy

I'm right there with you when it comes to the insomnia issue I have been plagued with insomnia for several years now (started when I was perimenopausal). I have not been able to pinpint what portion of my hormone replacement provides the best relief when it comes to getting a good night's sleep, as I tend to go in cycles where I will sleep pretty good for a week or so, then I have periods where I'm awake half the night. While I haven't been able to pinpoint my hrt directly relating to a good night's sleep (or not), I do know that stress plays a big role in how well I sleep (or not).

I don't have much experience with compounded estrogen cream and if more estriol might make a difference.

Sorry I'm not much help, but wanted to let you know you are not alone!

The only way I can get to sleep is using 25mg of progesterone cream 1 or 2 hours before I go to bed. It works like a charm. When I told my compound pharmacist about this, he said that is why they call it the "sleep hormone". If I don't use it....I don't sleep.

insomnia, will it ever end!!!

Im 11 months post op, and up until about a month ago, I had terrible insomnia. I was on and off of HRT in an effort to figure out which dose would give me the best sleep, to no avail.
My doc was very reluctant to give me a sleep aid, but after he seen me the last time and seen how worn out I was he agreed, and gave me a sleeping pill called lunesta, It is fairly new on the market, and has no dependancy issues, so he wrote the script. I still suffer on occasion, but in large part I sleep 6 out of 7 night, straight thru, not waking up and tossing and turning. Sleep is nessecary for healing, and after I started sleeping, I believe I feel better now than before.
Talk to your doc, and maybe he will help you out.

Hi

I have sleep issues too. I go in and out of periods where I can sleep for a week or 2, then I can't sleep for sometimes 2 weeks straight.

My doc gave me ambien to try, but I hate to take prescription drugs. I heard a lady say she swears by 5-HTP (50mg, Nature's way brand). I take one, a couple of hours before bed, and it seems to help me fall off to sleep.. I'm keeping my fingers crossed (to see how long it will help). Adjusting hormones doesnt seem to help with my sleep issues...

I am one who needs at least 8 hrs a night, and without sleep, I am worthless to myself and everyone around me!!

If you cant find a solution, you may want to explore 5-HTP. You can find alot of info about it on google....

Good Luck!
