Search for new doctor

Hopefully someone will have some info for me. Almost exactly one year ago I had a TAD/BSO and have noticed the decline in hormones the last few months. I went to my family doctor last week with just about every symptom of both estrogen and progesterone shortages. I am currently on Vivelle Dot .05 and an OTC estrogen cream. My doctor suggested lab work to check liver, kidney, etc. functions. I talked her into doing a thyroid check also. No hormone studies. All came back normal. She does not seem to be receptive to helping me with further HRT at all. Her statement regarding the hot flashes, etc was "I would think you would be over that by now" She did rather reluctantly prescribe an estrogen vaginal cream today--I have not picked up the rx yet-for dryness, etc. She wants me to see a GI doctor for digestive problems that have also arisen over the last few months. I really feel that all of my symptoms are hormone related (or at least most) and am going to seek out another doctor who is more willing to work with me.
(Today even her nurse seemed to feel my estrogen dose was low but she's not the doctor. ) I'm sure many of you have been thru the same situation.

My question is--if this is ok to ask--does anyone have a good doctor in the Everett, WA area that they would feel comfortable referring me to?? If so, my e-mail address is <Oops! e-mail address removed for security/safety. Please use the PM or e-mail functions in the user profile.>
Thanks so much for the help anyone can provide.

Search for new doctor

(((Carol))), I'm sorry that you are having problems with your hormones. Getting balanced is difficult enough sometimes even with the help of a good doctor!

If anyone knows of a doctor in your area they can e-mail or PM you with that information. You could also post in the Neighborhood forum and ask for that information.

Another idea is to go to www.iacprx.org and use the locator feature for a compounding pharmacy in your area. If there is one, you can call and ask which doctors use their services. Some women in the Hormone Jungle have found a good doctor using that method.

I've used vaginal estrogen. It is very effective for dryness/atrophy but of course it won't help with other menopause symptoms. Where are you wearing your Dot? If you are wearing it on your abdomen, you could try moving it to your rear. Absorption is better back there so in effect you are increasing your dose without changing the dose.

I hope you can find a doctor more willing to help you feel better. Keep us posted, okay?

Search for new doctor

April Dawn,

Thanks for the help with the e-mail address--I wasn't sure how to go about asking for that type of advise. Thank you also for the pharmacy locator. I'm going to go there after this note. I'm not going to give up on this--just didn't think that my current doctor was quite that negative!
I'll let you know how it all turns out.

Carol
