Has anyone had a positive experience they want to share about the hormone "Estradiol"
Hi everyone.
I am due for my surgery next Friday. I have currently been on Depo Provera to stop my awful bleeding for about 2 years now. Only thing is that it has left me tired, without energy, always seem to have munchies, and alot more moody. It seems that the longer I am on the Depo, the worse these symptoms have become.
My doctor gave me a prescription for Estradiol so that I could begin to take it before my surgery so that I would have the hormone in my body before I went into surgery. That way I wouldn't experience all of the symptoms of surgical menopause after the surgery.
I took my first pill today. By the time the day was half over, I *actually* have energy, am not as tired, and don't have all of the hunger munchies that I had before I was taking it. I was in total shock...I haven't felt this well in months!
Is it possible that I had the munchies bc I wasn't producing any estrogen? The Depo prohibits estrogen production.
I feel so much better. Has anyone else felt better from taking this hormone? I would like to hear positive and/or negative stories about how this hormone drug has affected others.
Thanks so much you guys!

estradiol
I think the only thing I'm happy about concerning my fast-approaching hysterectomy is the estradiol patch I've been on for a month. If I chicken out about the surgery, I have to give back the patch. I feel better, more energy, no hot flashes, less dryness ( using vaginal estrogen cream also). I love it, I have this feeling of wellness and rightness that I haven't had in a long time.

What an incentive to go on through with your hysterectomy, huh?? Glad the patch is working for you, Gyfford. Good luck on your surgery.

I had an LSH/BSO 2/24/05 and have been on the estradiol patch since the recovery room and it has been a blessing for me.
Good Luck

My tah/bso was last July. I decided to go the no hormone route. After 8 months i couldn't stand myself anymore. I went for a consult on hormones. I started the estradiol drops. What a difference! 4 drops and i'm human again. I haven't cried once in 5 weeks. It used to be a daily occurance. My joints don''t ache like the tin man in the am. vaginal dryness, gone. My dh keeps saying "nice to have you back".I was told alot of my symptoms were the same for a woman having post partum depression. Why would i want to stay like that!
So Keep those hormones coming!

I love my vivelle dot patch which is estradiol transdermal -- before my hysterectomy I had horrrrrrrible mood swings, bloating, yada yada yada -- nasty periods, lots of pain, and this all started about 15 years ago -- I had the surgery the end of January. They slapped one on my behind that day and I have felt serene (almost -- but serene for me...) ever since. Wish the patch didn't leave adhesive which I have to scrub off with nail polish remover!! But it is worth it. My doc says there is a vaginal ring that you have to change way less often...I might try it, or just keep with the patch... It'll be hard to give it up, at least that is the way I feel right now -- 4 months post...
A friend told me that there are other hormones that are made from horse urine! eeeewwwww... My doc told me that estradiol is "bio-identical" to my own hormones, so there would not be much of a change to me, since I would be totally without.
My friend tried going without for about 4-5 months and ran back to her doc, begging for some... she says she feels like a new woman. So there you have some opinions of what I have experienced and also have been told!

estrogen
Good luck, I'm sure it will go well, and the HRT is your reward. Just remember to get regular mammograms. My radiologist says older perimenopausal folks need to have a new baseline established after starting estrogen because it makes you breast tissue more glandular again, and very quickly. Also, be heart-healthy, since nobody knows yet if unopposed estrogen might cause problems.
