bladder retention

I have an enlarged uterus due to a 9 cm fibroid, it is endenting the bladder. I also have bladder retention, that gets worse from day 10 to 15 of my period. I think I am ovulation then. The neurologist thinks it has nothing to do with my uterus, more to do with the nerves from my spine. I have a scheduled MRI to show any nerve damage in my spine. I was wondering if anyone out there has experienced bladder retention from a fibroid or enlarged uterus.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

bladder retention

Hi Silva,

I expereinced bladder incontinence from my fibroids. I had to go to the restroom on the hour, sometimes just for a trickle. Also, during the night, it was not uncommon for me to get up 2-3 times a night to relieve my bladder.

Today, I do not have the bladder problem. I can go a few hours now and sometimes I forget to go to the restroom. So, in my case, as my Dr. told me, I know my fibroids were effecting my bladder.

Best wishes,

Mary

bladder retention

Thanks Mary, hmm, clearly the fibroid is messing things up with the bladder... I wish there was a easy way out of this, I am trying to avoid any surgery small or large. I still have to rule out the spine thing, even MS, apparantly MS starts with bladder symptoms too, I will post my MRI results here, and if by elimination all is left is the fibroid, well, at least we will know what is causing it, I stiil will be reluctant to have surgery though, I am desperately trying to solve this without surgery.

Thanks for your time, I appreciate it so much.

bladder retention

Silva,

H again. I am posting on your fibroid cure thread also.

It can be a tough time deciding what to do. Do no worry about the MRI. I have seen several ladies post who had one. Part of some Drs routine in diagnosing what is going on.

In my case, I had normal yearly exams for YEARS and YEARS at the gyneo office. In and out. No problems. Then, I was diagnosed with two large fibroids. It was a complete shock!!! I cried for three days after getting the news. I did not want surgery either. And, I had fast growing fibroids and both my Drs felt they would grow back with an alternate method. That was a big boo-hoo. I had never had surgery in my life so I was really scared.

All I can say is you are not alone. Hyster Sisters is a safe place to ask your questions and voice your concerns.

bladder retention

Hi Silva

I have had bladder retention for serveral months and was not diagnosed with a cyst until this past week. The cyst is what was causing the retention. I had my urologist and neurologist finally agree on this. I am now scheduled for hysterectomy on May 18. All three doctors are positive that removing the cyst will stop the bladder retention.

Keep asking questions!!!!!
That is what I had to do until they found this cyst.

bladder retention

Thanks talkinghands, it helps to know someone else also knows what you are talking about... by cyst, do you mean a fibroid on your uterus? or a cyst on your bladder or neck of bladder or urethra, I will have to assume it has to be on your uterus, hence the hysterectomy

I have not given up yet trying to find a way to shrink the fibroid and keep my uterus. I want to keep my uterus so much, that I am beyond myself. But to hear that they agreed it is not from anything coming from your spine, gives me hope that it is a less serious matter, like a fibroid, once you start messing with the spine, it has no end....

Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

Silva

The cyst is on my ovary. But since in the past I have had a bad pap smear the doctor recomended having everything removed. I also am 44 years old and can do without menstrating.

Yes, I know what you are talking about when you talk about the relief knowing that it wasn't your spine. I had serveral of those tests run on me also. The neurologist is very nice and she kept saying that she did not think it was but we had to rule it out just in case.
I will keep you in my thought that the fibroib will shrink and you can keep your uterous.
