Isn't it a stitch (pardon me) how it also hurts to laugh?

My husband brought a very funny book to read to me in the hospital on day 3, and I had to ask him to stop after 2 pages.

Beforehand I envisioned watching all of these comedy videos during recovery at home. I still haven't seen them (though I noticed in week 3 that it no longer hurts to laugh).

It kind of rules out that old saying "Laughter is the best medicine". My worst pain so far has been from laughing. I keep saying as I laugh "stop, stop...it hurrrrrtss"

I actually thought I was going to have to stay away from my sister and niece. We can get laughing so hard and can't stop. It hurt soooo bad when they came to the hospital to visit and we got the giggles.
Laughing hurts...but how about coughing or sneezing? I kept praying I would not get a cold. I had coughed a couple times the day after surgery. Oh my goodness!! I would hate to have ended up with a hacking cough from a cold.
Sneezing is the worst for me hands down. The first time I sneezed was about a week out and it hurt so bad I almost cried. I am a month out today and sneezing still hurts quite a bit.

I sneezed the other day and I screamed out in pain, my dh came running in "What's wrong?" It felt like I would split in two.

Both my dh and dd have been coughing and I have slept alone to avoid breathing their germs. Although my dd is 6, so I am unable to kiss that pretty little face. Mother's Day was funny, my dd did a wonderful card at school. There were questions the teacher asked like "W hat does your Mom do in her spare time" One child responded
"she has nothing to do except awtch my annoying sister" anyway the card was a riot, then so very sweet. I was laughing, crying.

Yelling is a tough thing too, very frustrating to want something and everyone is downstairs, and you so don't want to get out of bed. I finally thought of a good one... we have 2 way radios so i had one downstairs and up it works like a charm.

My brother just moved back down here from Oregon, so he's staying with us until he can find his own place. Anyway, he's always saying something to crack me up. He's a total riot! For about 3 weeks post-op, I had to keep telling him to stop because he was saying things to make me laugh and it hurt lol.

Yea, I found laughing to be particularly painful...and my kids love to make me laugh!!!!!!!!!!!!! The other night my son had me laughing really hard...as I kept saying "stop, it hurts...", but I really had the giggles, and even though it hurt like crazy I couldn't stop myself and then the most embarrassing thing in the world happend....I wet myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd been leaking, off and on, but PLEASE!!!!
Explain that one to an 11 y/o and 17 y/o!!!!!!!! Gee, they will never let me live that one down.
To make matters worse after they knew it, then they went into fits of laughter, which of course sent me there too!!!!
I swear, if a psych doc would've seen all this, I am quite sure I'd be fitted with a straight jacket, sitting in a rubber room now!!!

I know what you mean. One night, a few days after I got home, I couldn't sleep so in the middle of the night I turned on David Letterman. Jack Hannah was on and had brought out a pair of armadillos and put them on Dave's desk. The armadillos started mating and Dave was screaming. I thought I was going to die of pain it was so funny.

My biggest single pain (Glad it only happened once) was the inner reverberation from an unexpected gas (my own) explosion in the bathroom in week 2!!!! I can laugh about it now because im in week five
What really gave my daughter and i the chuckles and snorts was in week 2 (again )I sat down next to her to have a quiet cup of coffee on the lounge. next thing I got up very fast ran in the hall way, ripped my nighty off and stood there for several seconds making what sounded like monkey noises. The look on my daughters face was incredulous. I explained that id spilt my coffee. She had thought id popped a stitch and was very worried. After reassuring her that I was fine and if i ever did pop a stitch, it wouldnt be that dramatic,I had a luke warm shower to cool my leg down and all was fine not even a mark, then the laughter that followed was the most painful of all as we kept on recalling the silent movie version of my actions. But I still enjoyed the laughter it will definitely be one of our 'remember when' moments.
Week 3 was a much more settled week!
As my sister used to say:'Laugh and the world laughs with you,cry and you flatten your beer'. Linda B

Thanks for that last one, LinB. You really had me chuckling.

It's so GOOD now, not to hurt when I laugh.

Won't it be great when nothing hurts at all? (I suppose that will never happen, but let's not get TOO philosophical.....)
