Wild Yam Cream, diosgenin, & Natural Progesterone Cream???
Hi Ladies,
I am still on the search here in the Jungle. Started back on the Vivelle Dot 3 weeks ago, 0.0725 dose. Except THIS time, I am trying to balance out with something to keep me from being estrogen dominant, which is what I think was wrong last Fall.
I have been using a wild yam cream which promises to be "the highest strength extract available", and "contain more diosgenin than any other cream."
My questions are these: should I be using a natural progesterone cream instead? If so, what strength? And what is the difference between Nat. Prog. and Wild Yam creams? They are side-by-side in the health stores. I have tried to research "diosgenin", but confess to being a little confused. Evidently it is in it's natural form in a wild yam cream, but they change the chemistry or something like that, closer to the progesterone produced in a woman's body, when it is in a prog. cream? Is that correct?
Any advice would be appreciated...I do feel that this is the balance I've been looking for, but just don't know which path in this jungle to take...I've been here for 11 months
Thank you, God bless.

Wild Yam Cream, diosgenin, & Natural Progesterone Cream???
Kathy,
Here's a thread from the archives where the various creams are discussed http://www.hystersisters.com/forums/...?threadid=2337
It is my understanding that Progesterone and wild yam are NOT the same thing. Check your labels carefully and be sure that the progesterone contains actual progesterone.
Hugs :-)

Wild Yam Cream, diosgenin, & Natural Progesterone Cream???
Diosgenin does not convert to progesterone in the body. You have to get cream with progesterone in it. I understand that diosgenin is an active ingredient affecting other systems in the body, but doesn't replace ovarian hormones.
For dominance, you should also take magnesium supplements (500 mg of mag to 1,000 mg of calcium), a B vitamin complex, and zinc--or eat a LOT of foods with these in them. Estrogen dominance comes in part from deficiencies in these nutrients during the metabolic breakdown of estrogen.
The one in the store is a tested brand. I had good luck with Progesterone 900 at GNC stores.

Wild Yam Cream, diosgenin, & Natural Progesterone Cream???
The cream I use doesn't contain the chemical you mentioned. Dr. Lee suggests the creams that contain USP Progesterone. My cream does say that it is derived from Wild Yam, but it also lists this USP Progesterone. Have you been using it? You didn't say how it was working for you if you are, only that you thought maybe you had made the wrong decision.
Sincerely,
Carole (Spot)

Wild Yam Cream, diosgenin, & Natural Progesterone Cream???
Thank you everybody....yes, Spot, the wild yam cream seemed to help me in a lot of ways the Vivelle Dot has not done. But knew I needed to research further before I buy a new jar. Maybe I will use BOTH creams....Wild Yam and Progesterone!! LOL.
Trish, thank you for your valuable advice. My vitamins need to be fixed..and your information helps a lot. And Kim, thank you for the thread..I will definitely read that.
Also Ann7--LOL--yes, I think I will order the book and perhaps the angel cream also. I've heard a lot of good things about that book!
Thanks again everyone. I'm down to the last 1/2 tsp in the jar.
