Total Vag. Hyst. & Bladder Lift

I am having a total Vaginal Hysterectomy and a bladder lift on June 20th. I am scared to death. Lots of questions like how do they get everything out? Do they dialate u after you are asleep? What kind of pain will I be in? I have Interstitial Cystitis does anyone else? Just wondering if it will make my bladder more painful? Do u bleed after? How long is the stay for a vaginal Hyst? Any questions answered would be very much appreciated.

Total Vag. Hyst. & Bladder Lift

I am scared to death also. I am scheduled for a LAVH in two days. My doctor told me at my pre-op appt. that my hospital stay would be 2 days. But I am also having a posterior repair and ectrocele repair. My mother in law had the same surgery that I am having about two years ago and she told me when she woke up she was in pain but the pain meds they gave her helped. She said the first two days were the worst but after that everything went uphill. And within two weeks she said she was feeling like a new women. She said it was actually hard not to do house work she was feeling so well. But she said to be careful what you lift you will give yourself a setback. Good Luck on your surgery. I will post my experience when i get home on Sat. The only way I am getting through this is..........all my friends who have had a hysterectomy have told me I will feel like a new woman in a couple of months and will wonder why I didnt do it sooner. Good Luck!!! My prayers are with you.

Total Vag. Hyst. & Bladder Lift

I keep having this dream that when I wake up from surg I have a huge cut on my belly! In reality I know that if need be this may happen but I'm mentally prepared for a tvh. So needless to say I'm an emotional wreck right now I think I may ask for something to calm me down on Thurs morn. I have had many operations but for some reason this one has my knickers in a knot!! Just 2 more sleeps. Take care ladies.

Hi Hyst.pal,

It's perfectly normal to be scared before surgery....we all were. Fear of the unknown can take over if you let it. But read all you can here like the Princess Stories, Checkpoints, and Pre-Op Hints.

My hospital stay was from Mon-Wed. I had a & p repairs too. Your nurses will help you stay on top of the pain. They will ask you to rate your pain on a scale of 1-10. My greatest fear was post-op pain and I can say it never got above a 3. For me, it was more like an aching than actual pain. I didn't have the pain pump because my anesthesiologist gave me a shot of morphine after surgery and that was wonderful for pain.

I was packed with gauze after the surgery (not all drs use this) and my bleeding was very minimal. Only used a panty liner a few days.

For a tvh an incision is made in the vaginal wall and everything is taken out that way then the top is sewn up (vaginal cuff). Everyone's outcome is different so it's hard to say exactly how you will do.

s for your upcoming surgery.....btw, if you would, please update your profile to include your surgery date. It's much easier for everyone to answer your questions pre and post-op by seeing where you are in recovery, etc. Thanks!!!

Blessings

Total Vag. Hyst. & Bladder Lift

I am having the same thing tomorrow. The fear has taken over and I am trying to find a way out! Okay, that is my last thought before sleep when I get to sleep. There is a period during the day that I am just really okay with it. The bladder thing is the only really painful thing from what I hear - my friend had one and says its not good, but so worth it. So we will see. I had a c-section 2 years ago with no pain medication required at all after surgery. I guess this is different. They are taking stuff out. I will pray for you.

You are gonna be good.

IT IS OVER! Man, what was I worried about? I have had ZERO surgical pain since I woke up. My chest and shoulders still hurt from the gas and the thighs - GEEZ what position do they put you in to get your stuff out? My bladder doctor blames my GYN and vice versa - thus, I will never know! They are too funny! Over all, not bad deal. I do have anxiety, but had it before I went in and it caused heart rate to jump after surgery. No big deal, I am on Lopressor for that and echo cardiogram was normal. No bladder pain, no stomach pain - honestly. I do take darvocet for the chest and thigh thing though - but not surgical pain. They are uncomfortable. No big hormone changes yet, no mood swings or hot flashes - but I had surgery on Wednesday. I could have talked to you on Thursday, but I got home late - went to WalMart for prescriptions before I came home. Seriously. I sat in the message chair at the pharmacy while they filled them. They have wonderful pre op meds now to calm you down and the surgery is a breeze. I took a deep breath, gave it to Jesus and off I went. You are gonna be great. The wait is the hardest part, honestly. I am the biggest surgery baby EVER! And I HATE medication! My thoughts and prayers are with you and you stay in touch. I am sure I will see you in the post op boards.

Oh, I forgot to tell you. I have been urinating normal since the evening of surgery and not worn a pad since I left the hospital on Thursday. You are going to be so relieved once it is over.

I am so glad everything went great for u. I really didn't expect u to be feeling well until a week or so. Are they telling u to take it easy? Can u lift anything? When r u completely done with the bleeding? Speaking of bleeding I started my nasty period this morning. Wont miss this monthly bull****! Plus I am in more pain during my ovulation and my period. I am glad to hear from u. When u feel bbetter we will chat for awhile. Your Hyst.Pal Sheri
