fever ?????????

Is it normal to have a low grade fever the week after surgery? Mine has been ranging from 99.4-100.

Thanks.

fever ?????????

no its not normal and you need to watch for infection. when i had my last ovary removed, i went home and developed a fever. about three - five days after i got home. i got really sick and it turns out that the surgical incision became infected. i needed to go back in for emergency surgery. not to mention the pain was horrible.... i would see my doc immediately if your fever continues... please dont wait.

God Bless,
Kel

fever ?????????

I've been running a low grade fever- 99.4-101 ever since my surgery which was feb 17th, and the drs can't figure out why. They keep doing urine tests and blood counts and say both are ok. So after countless trips to the drs, still no answers. I wish better luck to you!

low grade fever

My doc told me to call if I had a fever that went over 101.

Maybe a call in to check would be in order.

I got an infection on my incision and the drain tube holes a few days after surgery, but I never did get a fever.

I knew it was an infection though-no doubt-it was angry red, draining pus, and really really tender to the touch.

fever ?????????

My surgery date was 5/17 and I ran a low grade fever in the hospital and have had one come and go since I've been home. This morning it was 100.5 and is now at 100.9 - - besides the fever, I feel fine. I'll call the doctor soon though because I am worried.

fever ?????????

When I was in the hospital I had no fever. Once home it has ranged from normal (98.6) to fever from 99-100.7 The times it seems to elevate for me are when I have over-done myself. When it was the highest, I REALLY had been active...think it was the first night I showered and washed my hair. The temp usually drops back to normal upon a bit of resting. When there is ANY concern, I believe calling the nurse in my doctors office is a smart couse. Hope you feel better soon!

fever ?????????

A little reassurance for you....some people's temp REALLY runs "normal" at about 99. So, at 100 for them, it's really like 99.6 for others....some people's temp runs at 97, so seeing 100 is more concerning. Think about how you FEEL. If you are eating, sleeping, not bleeding and have little pain, by all means CALL the doc to talk about it, but try not to worry too much. ALSO, one common reason for a low grade temp is dehydration. Are you drinking enough? You may want to increase your fluids and see what happens.

fever ?????????

Thanks for the advice everyone. I am feeling better andlike someone said the fever tends to go up a little and then back to normal. I will keep an eye on it but glad to hear it is normal for a lot of people to run a very low grade fever when first home.

Hope you are all doing well.

fever ?????????

I talked to my doctor last night because my fever went up to 101.5 - -he said to take a Tylenol product and if that didn't bring the fever down to call him back and he'll meet me at the hospital. He said a fever of 101 or higher after surgery that won't respond to Tylenol is a serious sign and would require medical attention. Luckily, after 1000 mg of Tylenol my fever not only went down but broke. Apparently it is very normal to have a low grade fever after surgery. Best of luck to all.
