Still can get endo after hysterectomy?

After having my premed and I was being wheeled in for my surgery (TAH), I was informed by a Dr filling in for my usually Gyno, that you can still get endo after a hysterectomy. As it is your ovaries (hormones) that produce it and not your uterus. This was the first time I had every heard this and I am upset to think that maybe women are having this surgery thinking their problems with endo will be solved. I did have this surgery for other reasons aswell, however I felt it important to pass this info onto others so that they can make their choices having more info to go back to their Dr's with to get a clearer picture.

Provided your surgeon has removed all of your endo from other parts of your pelvis etc, you shouldn't get a return. However, if you have kept your ovarey/ovaries and there was some endo or even some tiny spot left behind, there is a chance that this can cause you pain while your body is still producing the same hormones as this is what causes the endo to bleed, inflame etc.

I had really bad endo but my surgeon still left me with one ovary because of my age and I still worry that the hysterectomy is not going to cause any pain, even though my surgeon said it had all cleared up or been removed. Time will tell I guess. At least the adeno and fibroids have gone.

Still can get endo after hysterectomy?

Well, that is a scary thought. I didn't know I had endo until after the surgery. I had never been diagnosed with it and think that it was a fairly recent addition to my problems as it's only in the last year that I had pain. The focus was pretty much on the fibroids. I had the doctor leave in one ovary as I would prefer to go into menopause naturally. I'll have to ask the doctor about this when I have my 6 week check up. I sure hope they cleaned me up well!!

still can get endo after surgery

Hi all, I had a TVH-BSO My doctor told me that it was hard to get all the endo out so by taking the ovaries the inflammation wouldn't kick back up. My sisterinlaw is going back in to have her ovaries removed because the endo is bothering her. She had just her uterus removed. It's only been a YEAR.
