10 Days Post Op - Night Sweats

Hi all,

well I'm 10 days post-op now and feeling quite good - been a bit stiff the last couple of days though but I'm coping.

I started my HRT last Thursday (Tibolone) and I am still having night sweats. I get off to sleep OK but wake up at about 1am and my back and chest are soaking wet even though I don't feel hot.

I sleep only with PJ bottoms on and only have bedding over my legs to keep me cool. I have a blanket nearby that I can pull over if I get cold. All sheets on my bed are cotton which I hear is best.

Will these night sweats start to go away once my HRT starts 'working'? How long can I expect to suffer with these night sweats? They are horrible.

Many thanks
Rowdy XX

10 Days Post Op - Night Sweats

I am not on HRT...so I have no answer for you....BUT, one of the 'Sisters" here will.

I did have night sweats for 8 years before my hyst...I am an old lady!

Run down to Walgreens and buy a "CHILLOW" It costs $19.95 and is the best investment I ever made.

You fill it with water and then slip it into your pillow /case...It keeps your head cool and so cuts down on the night sweats.

I find myself waking as I get one...I move my head to a 'cool spot' on my pillow and am able to go right back to sleep.

Hope this helps.

10 Days Post Op - Night Sweats

Hi,

Just another thought...

I kept my ovaries, but also had a few nights of night-sweats soon after my surgery. I was told that it was probably a reaction to all the medication I was given, the stress of surgery, and also one way for the body to rid itself of all the IV fluids we are given in the hospital. It may just be a temporary post-surgical reaction.

I slept on a towel, and put another directly over me (under the top sheet). I had another nightie and more towels handy nearby so that I could deal with waking up soaking wet with minimal fuss it the middle of the night.

Hope you are feeling better soon.
