Picking up things after surgery...

I will be alone for about a week post op (day 5-11). I have always been a tea drinker, decaf, but tea instead of water. This is not about the fact that I SHOULD drink water, I know that. But what I DO want to know is this...is a gallon jug of ANYTHING too heavy to pick up? You can think of it as water if it makes you feel better for me

Not sure what the weight limitation is but a gallon of water does weigh 8 lbs. If it is under your limit you should be able to do it...

If you are concerned what about half gallon jugs instead...you might find that much easier if a gallon jug is closer to the limit.

HI, when I left the hospital 4wks ago today. wow how time flys. but anyways they told me nothing heavier than a gallon of milk . which is what the other sister just posted about 8 pounds so if they give you a 10 pound limit like have then you should be fine with a gallon of anything. I hope this helps, Cathy

I know people aren't going to like this.. but I had my Pre-Op yesterday.. and what my Doc told me is.... If it hurts.. Dont Do It! I know that that is pretty vague.. and I told him that.. but he said use your own judgement. I am having a LAVH... so that might make a diff. but I am going to just take it way easy for at least.. the first week!

I found it easier to pour from a gallon jug by just allowing it to lay over the edge of the fridge or cabinet, rather than picking it up. That may help if you're on a lifting restriction of less than 8 pounds.

I had a tvh/a-p repair. I found that lifting a gallon of liquid was out of the question for a couple of weeks.

I picked up all sorts of things by doing a ballet plie, grabbing whatever it was, and standing back up again. With a little momentum, you can get whatever it is to the counter or higher.
