Back from the hospital....

had my blood tests yesterday and doctor was disappointed to see that my white counts were even lower than last weeks!

But he said we couldn't postpone treatment again since it's been postpsoned twice already, so I had my chemo #3 yesterday but I had to go back to hospital again this morning to start 7 days of "neupron" shots. The chemo nurse showed my husband how to do it since I told her I would definitely not be doing it myself! Needless to say, hubby is looking forward to it!

How long does it take the bone marrow to get going? My doctor seemed a little worried -he said most people need an extra week or two but mine actually got lower (the neutrphils (sp?) than last weeks. I hope this shots jump start my bone marrow and he's givimg me until June 21 to recuperate for chemo #4. My MRI is set up for Friday morning -results on June 21.

I'm so exhausted from yesterday -went in at 7:30AM and got back home at 6:00PM. Delays due it being a long weekend here in Canada for Queen Victoria's Birthday on Monday. Was in bed by 7:00 PM.

I just told my husband I could sure use a vacation -fed up of needles, hospitals, etc. He thought maybe we could drive down to Florida until my next appt - I'm not sure if I should risk it. I guess if I'll be sick here, I'd rather be sick near the sun and ocean and sand and palm trees and oh you get my drift!

I could sure use a vacation now

I'm so sorry to hear that your counts aren't up where they should be. I think the Neulasta shot should work wonders for you. It sure helped me. I had mine routinely, always the day after chemo.

As far as the vacation goes, why not call your oncologist and see if he's o.k. with the travel. If he says yes, then what are ya waiting for?? Have a great time...

Let us know how you do......

Blood and Shots

Neupogen will help you out--I had them for my first recurrence and every chemo since then. If you feel a bit off or flu-like, it WILL get better--took my body a couple days to adjust to.
White cells/neutrophils are odd things. I once had my shots due to low neutrophils and got a sinus infection and when I went to the clinic one day after the shots I had just 1060 neutrophils. I hope these shots work for you as they did for me.

Hey--ask the oncologist about the trip and see what he/she says.

Back from the hospital....

Hi, Maxime. Well, I am glad to hear that you had your treatment. I am sure that you will have a good response to the neupron and that this will get you back on track for your remaining treatments. How tough all of this has been for you! Sending big HUGS your way.

I agree: You should take some time to away and let the warmth and sun work their rejuvenative powers on you. You will feel like a new woman.

This really is quite an ordeal that you are going through. But it will all be worth it, Maxime! Never forget that!

(((Maxime)))

I am sorry you continue to have the blood count probs but glad you have another chemo session under your belt to continue wiping out any nasties. That vacation sure sounds good and I hope your doctor will approve it. Perhaps he can give you the name of a doctor he might know(from conference, etc.) in a major FL. city near where you may travel just for contingency purposes. Please keep us update.

Your doctor may be concerned about travelling with such low counts. They leave you open to every infection that comes along -- and the climate changes and all the other people that come along with travel can often lead to infections when you're "run down."

I can sure understand the desire to leave cold Quebec and doctors behind, though!

WOW, you are doing so good to get through all of this - hang in there! Don't know what your Doc may say about a trip, although I think it sounds like a fabulous idea! But even if he says "no" for right now, that does not mean you can't plan one right now! Sometimes just planning a trip makes me feel better. And it will give you something to look forward to.

Looking forward to wishing you a big aloha before your fun trip - let us know how it comes along. Judy

Back from the hospital....

Hi Maxime,

I had to have neupogen shots after each treatment. They worked well for me. My hubby (who hates needles) became a very good nurse. We're learning we can do so much more than we ever thought we could. My dr. didn't really want me traveling or visiting hospitals or cleaning litter boxes while my counts were low. Maybe you should ask your dr.'s opinion. Hope he gives you the okay. Sun and sand sure sounds great.

Best wishes,

Be very careful if you do any traveling right now.
May not be worth the risk if you have a complication far from home and your docs.
Florida is probably so stinking hot right now.
That said, you may very well love hot, hot weather.
Why not plan a special trip for when chemo is over?
I did that and it really helped the time to pass.
Hang in there.
