urinating

Hi, Im new here, and just wanted everyone to know that this is an amazing site.

Im 10 days post op, everything is going ok, except for urinating. It is the most excruciating pain Ive ever been through. Its not getting any better or any worse. Ive got to the point where I dont want to drink anything because of urinating afterwards. Did anyone else have this problem? If so, what can be done about it?
Thanks so much. I have been reading this site before and after my tah/bso, and I will continue untill Im well. I have also suggested this site to friends and family of mine.

Once again, thanks

Marti

Marti--

I had this problem too. Did you have a foley catheter? If so, that is probably the culprit.

Call your doctor. You probably need to be checked for a UTI. If no infection, your bladder and/or ureter is probably "upset" by the catheter and other "messing around" they may have done in there during surgery. Please do not stop drinking lots of fluids--that will only exacerbate your problem.

I was given an anti-spasm drug for the bladder pain. It worked well for me, and I am improving.

Hope this helps.

Hi ((((Marti))))) and to Hyster Sisters. I'm sorry you're dealing with this problem

After my hyst, 4 years ago, my bladder went very sluggish for a few weeks. In my case, it wasn't an issue of pain, it was simply an issue of not being able to go: I had to immerse my hands in cold water and to have water running in order to help things along. Eventually, things improved and went back to normal.

It is very important to drink a lot of water in order to ensure that your body can "flush" out all the meds. Drinking will also avoid all kinds of potential problems, including possible bladder and kidney issues. One thing I noticed was that it was much easier on my system to drink my water at room temperature: drinking cold water would "shock" my system unpleasantly.

Is your doctor aware that you've been having these problems? If not, it would be a good idea to give him/her a call in order to ensure that there isn't anything else going on.

I'm two weeks out and had some bladder issues for a couple of days.
When I would void I got the spasms I had read about on this site. I was glad I had prior knowledge so it didn't worry me. After a couple of days it resolved on it's own.
In the hospital in order to get myself to pee I pressed on my pelvic bone and for some reason that helped initiate the peeing. Also putting my other hand in warm water in the sink helped as well. Good luck and remember 'this too shall pass.'

When I first came home I had problems to.. I am now 18 days post-op & have none...Mine was I would pee just a lil all the time but still feel ful like I had to still go..I called my doc. And he pput me on a antibiotic for UTI just in case & also said when there is still gas trapped in there it would be difficult because of the pain the gas was causing..He was right after I took my antibiotics & started getting rid of my gas I started peeing alot with no pain & started feeling so much better.. It could be sweety you may have a mild infection & may need something to help it along but please don't stop drinking lots of water at room temp...the water will help get it out of ya..

Hi,

I am new here and love this sight! I wish I had found it weeks ago! Anyway I just read your post. I also had this problem. I am 6 weeks postop for a total hystertectomy and bladder repair and had no idea I would even have a catheter in when I came out of surgery especially one coming out of my pubic. It would have been nice for the Dr. to have warned me what to expect. I had to have the catheter in and out for 3 1/2 weeks until another Dr. in the office finally explained to me what was happening to my bladder and that I needed to retrain it. I also felt like if I stopped drinking so much the pain would stop but instead I think it got worse. I was put on DetrolLa and drank more water. The less I drank the more it hurt. So I upped the water and it felt better. This is wierd but when I stood up and squated to pee more would come out and I felt I was emptying more and then the bladder spasms stopped after. Coincidence maybe?

The good news is my bladder is back to normal I no longer have a catheter coming out of my pubic, THANK GOD! I thought I was going to have it the rest of my life! And no more pain! You will get better!

Take Care!
