Writing loved ones letters

Here is kind of a silly question, Is it normal to want to write my loved ones a letter JUST IN CASE? Not that I think anything will go wrong, but if it does. I would hate to think that I don't get to say goodbye or that they don't know how much I dearly love them. I have wrote my dh a letter on this sight, but it's not the same. My daughter I would want her to know how much I love her and how she should always remember her morals and values. My sister. my ex husband on how to properly raise our daughter to be the young lady she needs to be. Listen to me this is crazy. Anybody else ever done this? It's not being morbid or anything is it? I have total faith in my Dr. and I have had several surgeries before, with no complications. Maybe I am just freaking Four days left. I think I am losing it.

Kathleen

Writing loved ones letters

Don`t feel bad, I felt the same way about writting a letter. I have 2 grown girls and 2 beautiful grandaughters and a wonderful husband of almost 30 yrs.I had bad feelings about not coming out of it but I beleaved in God and knew he would return me if in the plan. I was right!! I needed to be here for those little girls and my husband(who would be lost) So as they say here a lot of us have been there, you will come home and be happy...enjoy what you have been given no matter what

Writing loved ones letters

Hi Kathleen,
It is very natural to feel the need to write or talk to our loved ones. I felt the need to re-write my will and advance directives, even though the possibility of death is remotely slim with a hysterectomy. You should do whatever you need to do to feel comfortable going into this. I think sometimes these activities are what helps set our mind at ease so we enter the hospital in a better frame of mind. Good luck as your day approaches.

Writing loved ones letters

Kathleen, reading your post brought back memories for me. I did exactly the same thing, and the week before my hyst the womens mags were full of morbid stories about surgeries (probably they're often full of it, but just then I noticed everything and took it as an omen!!!). Its natural to worry about the rest of the family, 'cause it shows we love them.

I so agree with previous posts, that you should do it and get it out of your system, but then try to look ahead optimistically. I heard recently that 95% of the things we worry about, never ever happen.

If it helps, I'm now a year after my hyst, it was the best thing i've done and has given me a huge new lease of life. God bless and good luck - you'll be fine!

Writing loved ones letters

Hi Kathleen,
I think your thoughts are perfectly normal.

My surgery is a week away and I've secretly writtend letters to members of my family. I have three great adult kids, a loving DH and three great step kids, and I feel better knowing that, just in case, I had a way to say good-bye and to tell them how much they mean to me.

I also did an informal will, mostly to distribute heirlooms and family jewelry. I will seal the envelopes and give them to a friend that I trust. She's agreed to keep them for me until I come back to work or to give them to my family.

The exercise of writing the letters was really calming, too. Once it was done, I was able to think of other stuff and actually look forward to living a pain free, mess free life.

My prayers are with you for real peace of mind.
Evy
