I know this sounds hokey, but....

This morning I was out in my garden doing some last minute "outside" things before I started my bowel prep for tomorrow.

I was pruning my roses when I noticed I had one single solitary open bloom on my peony bush. Why is this a big deal, you ask? Because the bush is from the root of a bush that my grandmother had. When each of her daughters got their first home, she split part of her plant and gave it to them. When I purchased my first home, my uncle split part of the plant they had received and gave it to me.

My grandmother died of ovarian cancer when she was 50. She is part of the reason I have been so persistent with my physicians about investigating my high risk status. She is part of the reason I am having my ovaries removed tomorrow.

I just felt like it was a little message from her that I am doing the right thing and everything will be OK, you know?

I cut my beautiful peony and brought it into the house and put it in a bud vase so I can enjoy it's beauty and comfort today.

I just wanted to share that.

Hugs,
Jo

That was such a comforting story you told us, thank you for sharing. I've felt comfort by thinking of close relatives that have already passed. I know I will have a waiting room full of people who care, but I have all of my "angel" relatives with me while I am having surgery watching over me.

Your flower story was very touching, I think I am going to start a tradition of sharing my flowers with people too.

Thanks for making my day,
Hugs, Kathleen

Not hokey--a beautiful thought! I do hope loved ones can sometimes look in on us. I think God works in ways such as your flower to let you know He cares. And also to let you know your family on the other side still loves you, too. Sending {{{hugs}}}............................

Flower/Grandmother Story

Dear Jo,
Just read your lovely flower story. What a touching tribute to your grandmother. I have a similar flower story. When my younger brother died unexpectedly several years ago the office sent me a lovely boquet of very colorful fresh flowers. I couldn't help but notice that right smack in the middle of the boquet was a single white rose. It was the most perfectly shaped rose I have ever seen. The first thought that came to mind after seeing that single white rose was that my brother was sending me a message to let me know that I shouldn't be sad that he was happy and at peace in heaven.
Whenever I see a white rose, I think of him.
Thanks for sharing your flower story.
Best wishes and godspeed on your surgery tomorrow.

That was beautiful! I am very hormonally challenged at this time and am balling my eyes out. But they are good tears so thank you for sharing that with us. Good luck tomorrow and I wish you an uneventful recovery.

I absolutely believe your grandmother is with you and watching over you and you have nothing to fear.
Go into the next days with the comfort of knowing you have angels by your side specifically there to watch over you.
God bless you.

peony bushes

When I was little my gram had a bush out her front door on the left side. I remember wanting to pick her bunches of flowers and her telling me no. She felt that they were prettier there alive than in a vase dead. Just gram never argue with her. I always lost. But when she died on 1-1-89 my mom couldn't handle gram not having her bush to look at. So the first nice day about may or so my uncle Dean went out to gram's dug that whole bush up and re planted it right between my aunt and my gram. Now that was 16 years ago and it is still there. My girls wanted to pick a bloom from it for her grave and my mom said no that isn't how gram was. She wouldn't like that. So my girls just left it alone. I just hope that gram was looking and realized that they listened. I miss my gram and at 31 don't feel dumb about admitting it.

Your flower story really touched my heart! I wish you well on your surgery and will be thinking about you. I go to the Castle Tuesday, so I know how you are feeling.
My best friend loves to garden and planted a different rose bush for each of her friends and family. She won't tell me which is mine, but says it's blooming beautifully. She swears that when her loved ones are ill, their rose won't be doing good either. So I
felt better when she said mine was in good shape!
Good luck tomorrow!
Blessings, BonBon
